1st full week of studying for my retake. I jumped right into Ninja MCQ, and about half way done. My average score is 78-the topics I am weak on are no surpise. I started to re-write my own notes today, but that was so de-motivating, I didn’t get very far. Tomorrow I need to re-write my notes (they are disjointed from my first test, I want to re-write them by topic in a new notebook). I really need to re-read my Becker book on acquisitions, equity method, and non-monetary exchanges so far. My plan is to get through the rest of the Ninja MCQ by end of next week, and re-write the rest of my notes. I then plan on printing out Ninja notes (didn’t utilize last time) and then jump into SIMS, while re-doing the missed MCQ in Ninja and continue re-reading the book. How are others approaching their re-take?

Say you cash expenses were 1,000 which included decrease in payable of $200…When you paid that on accrual basis, the $200 went against a payable, not on the income statement (you expensed it when it was accrued previously), so your accrued basis expenses were only $800…I hope I am explaining myself correctly-sorry, if I confused you more:) What helps me a lot with these questions is T-accounts….

@anyater – THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! It sounds so obvious now. Thank you

ok, I hope I didn't confuse you further, but the only way that helped was to think about it in terms of how it is treated in each instance and then add or subtract accordingly:) The formulas alone didn't do it for me:)

I just found out I received 73 on my FAR. I plan to re-take April 1st but also want to study for REG and take (1st time for REG) at end of April. Does anyone have suggestions how to study for both?

@Kathy I really don't recommend trying to study for both-I feel like both sections have so much information that you would be doing a disservice to yourself by trying to combine them and undercut your efforts in both. I think the best way would be to study for FAR re-take now, and plan on taking it in early April and then take REG later in Q2. You aren't getting your scores for both until end of June any how, so why rush?

I need to get out of my own head and stop reading the damn blueprint but under government section they have a lot of “prepare statements” type skills and it's freaking me the hell out! I don't want to have to worry about this! and not at this point anyway….

Not related to FAR but hey @anyatver, would you mind sharing a little bit on how you did on AUD, especially the SIMs part?

FAR - 65 (Planned rematch on Apr/May 2018 'cuz CalBOA is turtle slow)
    AUD - 2/10/18 (Roger MCQ/TBS, 5 weeks prep) - Pending...
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD

@j King- the AUD SIMs weren't bad for me, there was one FAR like SIM you could say, I pulled that out of the depths of advanced accounting-must have been the adrenaline. I have to say that AUD Ninja SIMS were great in sort of tying up the loose ends for me. I did like 30 of them the night before and thought I would fail for sure since I did so badly on them, but I think they helped. AUD was my strongest section because I deal with auditors as part of my job and quite familiar with the process. Outside of transaction cycles which just take practice it all made sense for me, and was easy to study for….

So I figured it out (I think). I was having trouble with this wiley book and having text to correlate the mcq's. So I decided to make my wiley book into a workbook. I know most will say just use the review course online. But I am on the computer most of the day and my eyes is not fairing well. so I made my book into a work book. I have the mcq's and answers, sims and answers in separate sections. I have the index in a separate section so if I want to get to a particular topic I can do it without thumbing through a 1000+ page book. Wish me luck, I plan to absolutely pass. I left the text in tact. So as I finish sections and want to do mcq's I can and I can do mcq's as well. Since tax season has picked up some, I am playing the audio as air noise. so far no one is complaining. They keep asking where did I get that. So maybe they enjoy Jeff instead of the local news station.
P.S I don't play music because I want to get the taxes done without people singing and dancin while they wait.(lol)

@Tncincy-good for you! whatever you have to do works! How do I deal with self doubt? I am so scared to fail, it's killing me (and making me study of course, but I need some confidence!) 🙂

@anyatver I deal with self doubt a lot, only because I have not passed any part. At least you have passed three already. I have been at this for a while and I really want to get it done. the future of my business depends upon it. So I keep telling myself to keep going, I rely on another 71 for a boost, and I keep my fingers crossed. I am trying to get another part paid for by 2/16 so I can sit for reg even if I don't pass far. But I plan on passing. I might not get a lot of sleep or end up with coffee jitters but I am plunging really hard into far to pass. It's hard to stay encouraged, but I am fighting with all I have not to throw in the towel. You will do it 🙂

@Tncincy-thank you for that! We can do it-this whole process is insane, but at this point, we have to keep going!

@anyatver Is it just me or F4: Module 6 – Intercompany Transaction MCQs are not like what was covered in the lectures/book? I understand the basic concepts, but these MCQs are not even remotely close to the book examples.. anyone else got frustrated with this section when they went through it or how to best tackle this issue?

I tried looking for further clarification via YouTube, but unsuccessful…

@Big4BeanCounter-yeah, the MCQs do come out of left field and then when they explain it in the lectures they don't make it obvious…For Intercompany Transactions, I found it helpful to read and note the explanation in the actual MCQ, not like anything in the lecture, but you eventually get there:)

3 days of studying left! didn't get as much done today as I wanted to, oy! Going to read through pensions notes tomorrow, do more MCQ and start going through the journal entries and SIMS I have done to make sure I understand how to do everything…All the other times, I felt like I was so done studying by this point, while this time around, I am just petrified (probably cause I have taken it once:))
