Research. How good are you Ninjas at research? I’ve got through most of the material and now am focusing on my weak areas, memorizing all the special rules and practicing research. I have a FASB basic membership that allows me to access the codification – the basic membership however does not let you use the “search function.”

Anyway, are there any tips or strategies that anyone can suggest in doing the research simulations?

What is your experience with the research sims on the exam?

Also, does the exam research allow you to “drill down” in specific sections? For example using the FASB website I can click topic 840 Leases and see all the subtopics 10, 20, 30 and so on. On the exam, does it allow you to do that?

I felt like the FAR exam research simulations were the most vague, as compared to AUD and REG. I only did about 5 – 10 research practice questions before the exam. I think it helps to know the structure of the code sections, but I wouldn't spend much time on it. I recommended knowing where the example financial statements are, so that if you have a simulation on Cash Flows or Income Statement, for example, you can look at an example.
