FAR Retake

This morning I was met with good and bad news. Good news is I passed Audit with an 84!! It was my second attempt. My first attempt I got a 72. :/ I got a 70 on FAR, however. The 70 makes me think that I didn’t completely not know the material, but I also wasn’t super close to a 75 either. I’m curious what suggestions you have in terms of restudying. I plan on taking the exam again beginning of November. I have complete access to Gleim materials, which haven’t used a ton for my other exams. I’ve found Gleim almost too intense. I feel like I’ve gotten lost in the details with Gleim. That said, however, I only used Ninja MCQ, Ninja Notes, and Ninja book for this FAR attempt. I’m asking a friend to borrow her Becker book to see if there’s some insight in that. While I don’t have my score report back yet I’m pretty certain I was comparable/weaker in MCQ and Weaker in Sims. There were many MCQs that I saw on the exam that I knew I had seen before and with a little more focused memorization I could have answered correctly. The SIMS are always a toss-up for me I feel. I’ve heard Gleim sims are the best to prepare and that NINJA sims aren’t terribly helpful. I want to try the Ninja flashcards, but can’t justify re-buying the notes and my MCQ subscription since I already have them. All of that said, what ninja out there has had a similar experience with FAR? What did you do? How did you approach your “restudying?” Your input is very much appreciated!

Just posted this in another thread:

I went from a 59 last October to a 77 in May. My advice would be to really understand journal entries, which you probably already know. But I had sheets and sheets of journal entries written out and additional cheat sheets of formulas and walkthroughs (i.e. arriving at gross profit in installment sales, how to calculate bond amortization, etc). Any time I had an MCQ that involved in a single calculation, I wrote it all out in journal entry form so I could see how it would hit the financial statements and / or wrote out the formula and walked myself through it to really make sure I got it.

Congrats on Audit! I also just found out that I have to retake FAR. I passed the other three exams on my first try so I thought I would pass FAR, but I didn't even hit 70. I used Ninja Book/Ninja MCQ but borrowing my friend's Becker book for the retake. Sucks that we have to wait till the almost end of Dec to find out our score.

cjhim, So true. It'll be a long wait. I'm going to Thailand during Thanksgiving and don't want to still have an exam to take looming over my head, which is why I'm planning on taking the exam the beginning of November before I leave. Curlygirl, Thanks for your recommendation. I half-halfheartedly would write out the journal entries when I went through the MCQs. I remember a couple times in the exam cursing myself for not practicing them a little more.

Update. I just got my score sheet. It says I got weaker in MCQ and comparable in sims. The comparable in sims is actually surprising. I thought I bombed them. With that in mind, how should I fine tune my study approach?

You shouldn't really focus on what the score sheet says unless you got below a 60 on FAR. I got a 98 on BEC and it said my writing was “poor”.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 98
    FAR - 74
    REG - 96
    I hate FAR.

I agree the score report is useless.. I got a 59 Comparable on MCQ and weaker on SIMS. just checked my report when I got 65: Weaker on both!! How in the world is that possible???? That surprises me. Anyways, do you guys recommend rewatching lectures on retakes?

BEC- PASS (Expiring in DEC 2017)

    REG- PASS (Expiring Feb 2018)

    AUD- PASS (Expiring Oct 2018)

    FAR- 65, 60, 59, 77!!! -GOD BLESS

If I can do it, anyone can do it!
