Hi Guys, long time ninja here. So for my 2nd FAR retake, with the new 50/50 format, my candidate performance report showed Stronger in MCQ (not comparable) and Weaker in SIMS. My strategy was just attack the MCQs and SIMS will naturally come to you as you know the concepts. But unfortunately that didn’t work and also I knew I couldn’t get the research question right and there were at least 3 SIMS that I was struggling with. I am really lost here and I was wondering if I should get a different review course? I was mainly using Becker and used Ninja MCQs for last one week before the test. Any advise is appreciated.

@eltoromodesto I am on same boat as you are ,just wondering how much time you had for SIMs ? You struggled on SIMs due to lack of time or due to anything else ? Curious as my strategy was same as yours and it din't work.I couldn't do last 3 SIMs due to lack of time.

@wannafree I think had sufficient time but Sims were just brutal. Especially there were couple of topics I hated the most and I tried to skip when studying. Plus there was one that I have never ever heard of, maybe it was a pretest?

I struggled with the same issue on all my FAR attempts. Maybe try doing more SIMs as part of your studying and get to a place where you can knock out the MCQ quicker? This way, you get to the SIMs with ample time.

I can't say it worked for me yet but I am trying it with this attempt. I really dislike the DRS simulations and their format. Please tell me which CPA in real life is going to poke around between 6 documents on a little screen like that? I heard that they are going to fix this for 2018 with a much better format. However right now, I think this aspect of the test is really taking away from the “Realistic” qualities that the AICPA is trying to pump into this exam.

@Lentilcounter – Agreed. Not a fan of DRS. Good luck to you and hopefully we can tackle this beast together.

I will join y'all and hope we can pass this section before 2018! I have not dreaded studying a section as much as FAR and taking 2x or even 4x as long as needed to go through a chapter.. The math is just so intensive and detailed. @lentil, my plan is to do all Ninja and Becker SIMS and as much MCQ as possible from now until Nov 19th. May be a long shot but trying my best. Yet I'm still on Chap 1 SMDH
