I need to buy a single section of a review course for FAR. Any suggestions on which one? I used a free trial of Wiley CPAexcel for REG and took AUD after working on a large audit at work. I am leaning towards Gleim but any suggestions would be great.

Also, I don’t have time for Becker with two young kids and a full time job. Is Gleim more direct or similar to Becker?

I had always used Becker but when that ran out, I got the 10-point combo for FAR and it seems to be working well so far. You get a 600 page book, 325 flash-cards, A ton of the old Bisk videos and then all the Ninja audio and notes. Becker was nice because it was all in one location, but once you organize all the Ninja stuff it seems to be working well for me.

I did the Ninja 10 point combo and passed FAR the first try. I did it the NINJA way too, with writing and re-writing notes. I've heard some really good things about Gleim though, too.

Looking back on it, I wish I'd just done Ninja or WileyCPA. I used Roger (paid for all 4 sections) and failed FAR. I did not like Roger's program for FAR at all. Too much junk information that was not tested, and his textbook for FAR was a mess. He was better for AUD, and I'm starting his REG soon so we'll see.

Gleim is another good one…but different people will tell you different things about it. His textbooks are good (written in outline format with roman numerals) but they, like Roger, have a lot of unnecessary stuff that is never tested anymore. Still, Gleim is rather inexpensive at $250 per part if you go the ‘a la carte' route. Something to consider. I've heard more praises of Gleim than I have about Roger and Becker and most of the other vendors, despite the few faults.

I'm jumping on the ninja band wagon, I am one of those that don't like fillers either, but if a good review material is what you want then I would strongly consider ninja. and it's a better price 🙂

Here's my opinion for what it's worth. I heard some pretty good things about Gleim as well but that's all the input I can give for that course. I finally passed FAR on my third attempt, sat on May 31, 2017 (74, 73, 79). I used the Ninja 10-point combo for my first two attempts and it's a great value for what you get. However, at that time (Aug 20, 2016 – Oct 5, 2016 exam day) the mcq software could not incorporate the DRS so the simulations preparation for the newly tested DRS was lacking. Albeit I managed to score 74 and 73, respectively, it still wasn't a passing score. I strongly followed the ninja method and I truly believe it's an effective study method.

I decided I needed to change my preparation by using another review course because ninja wasn't doing it for me for FAR. I did some research and watched youtube and came upon Surgent CPA Review. What drew me to that course was their commitment to incorporating DRS and enhanced simulations as well into their review course. I saw videos on their interactive software. I told myself, give this review course and chance and hope for the best. I studied from late March until May 31, 2017. I'm sure Gleim, Becker, Roger all have similar software. I had a limited budget as well. I qualified for a 33% discount as well, providing a receipt of my Ninja 10-point combo review purchase for FAR. All I can say is, the mcq and simulations prepared me well enough to finally pass FAR. I scored “Stronger' on MCQ and ‘Comparable” for the Simulations. I scored “Weaker” only for Specific Transactions problems. The other categories I scored stronger and comparable. Best money I ever spent, knowing I never have to study for FAR again. Thank you God!!

Best of luck to you ash!!
