Hang in there- perhaps it was a case of you knowing the material better / more than you thought so it just didn't seem hard for you. Good Luck!

I even finished FAR (2nd & passing attempt) with 40 minutes left and thought I was doomed. It is quite possible that you know the information well enough that the “harder” questions made no difference to you. With REG and BEC where I felt they got noticeably harder, and I ended up getting higher scores on AUD and FAR, go figure.

Also my SIMS were INCREDIBLY easy… like spooky weird easy.
really easy
February 27, 2017 at 7:37 pm #1500121AnonymousInactiveI took FAR today as well and had pretty much the opposite experience. MCQs were like “Seriously, wth!?” The TBS (even DRS) didn't seem too bad. We'll find out in just over a week! Hopefully we both nailed it and can move on!
February 27, 2017 at 7:45 pm #1500133rossch201ParticipantI thought the SIMs were oddly easy? One of them was so simple, I kept trying to figure out WTH I was missing, but with everything provided I couldn't figure it out. It was just basic I guess.
February 27, 2017 at 10:28 pm #1500273AnonymousInactiveThese tests are beyond strange. I quit trying to figure out the logic behind them a long long time ago. But anyway yes, in answer to the OP's question, my FAR testlets were all of easy questions. It got easier and easier as I went along. By the time I was done with those 90 questions, it was like a voice was saying to me “You didn't do well, so we didn't give you anything harder or your head might've exploded.” I got some easy SIMs but I didn't do well on them enough to pass. Or, maybe I did do well on them and the MCQ killed my score. Who knows. But yeah, if you think you got three easy testlets, you probably did. And if you did, it simply means that you have to do very well on the SIMs in order to pass.
I don't know if this was your first attempt at FAR or your first exam ever, but at least now you know what to expect if you do have to re-take it. Yup, people underestimate the number of IFRS, Govt, and Nonprofit questions and that's why they test on them the heaviest.
To be very honest, my enthusiasm for getting the CPA just seems to be less and less every day. I don't have much incentive or motivation to keep at it, but since I've paid for the review course and the exams already (I foolishly paid for them all at once, so I have to take them all this year)….I might as well just keep going, in hopes that someday I do find the motivation that I pretty well lost after finishing the FAR review course. I'm glad I'm not one of those twentysomethings whose life and career are riding on passing the CPA exam.
February 28, 2017 at 1:55 am #1500367evyng15ParticipantHi,
I took FAR earlier this month and passed. I actually thought all of my testlets were easy since they were all comparable to one another (while sims were definitely on another level… couldn't even answer research smh). There were a few questions that I saw on all three testlets (different numbers but exact same concept) and it was in my third testlet when I realized that I had screwed them up on the first two HA… but I ended up scoring stronger in multiple choice in general, and specifically in all categories except for governmental which I scored comparable in.
Out of all four exams, AUD is the only one where I really had a good grasp of how I was doing (thought I did well, ended up doing well). The other three, I could have sworn I had gotten all easy testlets but ended up passing them all, always scoring stronger in multiple choice as well (but always comparable in sims HA).
So keep your head up because you never know 🙂
February 28, 2017 at 3:09 am #1500379AnonymousInactiveI got “Stronger” in Govt and Nonprofit and still failed FAR. Too bad they could not have given me a 75 just because of that!! Although, what does Stronger/Weaker/Comparable even mean in the grand scheme of things? Absolutely nothing. So why do they give us a score report with that useless information? Because it is meaningless, just like the rest of the exam. There's no rhyme or reason to any of it.
March 8, 2017 at 1:29 am #1507879LDParticipantI just checked and found out I got an 80. full disclosure – I left the test with 2 hours and 15 minutes left on the clock. Goes to show you, you really just don't know until you know!
