FAR Test Experience – (Is it Possible)?

    Hello everyone,

I took FAR on 10/6, and if I passed, I am done with this test for the rest of my life. For my test, I got through the first 3 testlets, and only marked about 5-7 questions out of 90 that I wasn’t almost positively sure about. Problem was, I only left myself 1 hour and 45 minutes for the SIMS. NOT ENOUGH TIME! I rushed through most of the SIMS, but think I did decent on most of them. I got the research question all the way right, probably got a lot of the DRS correct, and I think I did at least 50% correct on the rest of the SIMS.

Has anyone had a similar experience like mine above and passed this exam? I just don’t know if I did enough on the SIMS to pass, even though I think I dominated the MC.

If I only scored 50% on most of the SIMS and only got the research 100% right, I don't know how I could have mathematically passed honestly. I really do think I got some of the SIMS 50-75% right, but I just really don't know if it is enough. I just can't wait until 11/4. I just really have a bad feeling.

Sounds like you have a better chance than me and I'm still holding out for a miracle.

This stupid test is curved and you don't need to get anywhere near 75% of the questions right to pass the test.

SIMs only count for 40% of your grade also, so nailing the MCQ is what really matters.

I also suspect most people who think they aced the MCQ and bombed the SIMs didn't ace the MCQ as much as they think.

I don't think that will be the case with my test. My multiple choice played to my strengths, and I believe I was even able to pick up on tricks they were trying to throw at me on certain questions. If I don't pass, I think it will be because of my poor performance on the SIMS. How much of the SIMS do you think you have to get right in order to pass?

You can't pass with a 75 unless you get at a minimum of 37.5% of the sims correct. If you scored perfect on MCQ then you need 15 points from the SIMs. 75 (passing grade) * 40% = 30 points possible on the SIMs. Getting the full 60 points on MCQ means you need 37.5% of those 30 possible points to pass. Getting that full 60 points on MCQ is pretty tough so i would say to feel comfortable you needed to do better than 50% on the SIMs.

I took FAR this weekend and I came out of the testing center feeling like a total zombie!! I got through the multiple choice in like an hour and a half, so I had plenty of time for the SIMS. I couldn't really tell as far as difficulty of the MCQs, like the testlets. There were like 5-6 on each that I flagged. The SIMS were surprisingly not that bad, which makes me really uneasy for some reason. I took REG a month ago (got a 71) and the SIMS were beyond brutal. For some reason though, I feel like I will be retaking FAR…Saturday was my 3rd attempt. I never know what to think though with these exams.

I just did the math based on how many multiple choice and SIMS I got correct, and my calculation came out to a 74. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if that's what I got. Although that doesn't take into account the questions I have no idea if they counted, or certain questions that counted for more based on their difficulty.

The fact of the matter is, I don't think anyone knows how this test is truly graded…I have one more chance under the current testing format, and then one chance under the new testing before my REG credit expires. Praying for an absolute miracle at this point…

honestly, there is no point in calculating your score & trying to figure out what you got because there is nothing more you can do about it. Anything is possible so lets hope for the best that you passed. 😀
Also, if you do worse than you thought, you'll feel even worse. In the case you did better, you'll be happy.

I got Weaker SIM, but I passed. The key was I got Stronger MC. As long as you killed MC, you should be fine. Good luck!

Very similar experience. Took the test end of August, felt good on the first MCQ packet and the second 2 were hard, but I felt I did ok. The SIMS were like honestly like another language to me haha. I felt fairly good on 2 of the 7, didn't feel good at all on 3 of them, and pretty much left the other 2 almost completely blank. I left feeling 100% like I failed, I was devastated.

I ended up passing by a few points. I wasted about 2 weeks of my life feeling depressed for nothing lol. My advice, don't count yourself out.

@Tyler Alexander, doesn't that make you wonder how you passed? 🙂 Makes you question the weight of the two areas and how they determine who passes and who fails. Oh well, nothing I can do at this point except wait!!!!
