Feels like nothing from REG is sticking

    I have very little experience with tax at work or in college. I’ve been studying REG with Becker for a little over three weeks, am half way through the material, and really feel like I haven’t learned much of anything. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel like all the material is running together and I have no idea which rules apply where. I’m really just hoping when I go back and review the first half that it really starts to come together…

    Yes, I felt the same way at times with REG. I used ninja MCQ and instead of doing the adaptive learning I opted to do sessions with one particular section at a time. This helped me drive home the concepts for each section without it getting all mixed together.

    @Katie,

    You are not alone. I feel the same way. @tygolfer‘s suggestion seems like the way to get it to stick better.

    BEC = 79

    AUD = 79

    FAR = 84

    REG = 86

    Prayer + AICPA blueprints = my success

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    I felt the same way with REG and was more worried about it even than FAR because I had no tax background. I ended up getting my highest score of an 87 on it, so my only advice would be to stick with it and at some point you may not even realize it but it will click.

    REG was hard. When i was studying for my final take of REG I changed my review a bit. When i was going through MCQs and would miss a Q, rather than just figuring out what the answer was and why i missed that specific question, i would go back to that general section and make sure i understood that whole subject. I think it was important to make sure i was prepared to answer any question on that small subject rather than just the specific question. This was esp important if it was an area that i struggled with for multiple Qs

    I just posted something about this. I have passed the other three exams the first time, I thought I had a good study system down for myself. I take REG on Sunday and feel so unprepared I feel sick. That’s not due to lack of effort, I just keep thinking I have something nailed down and then realize I am getting myself confused and mixing things up. This feeling doesn’t usually happen to me but I don’t know what to do at this point. I am trying to stay calm and keep pushing but I’m feeling very discouraged right now 🙁

    REG was really, really difficult for me too. I found REG too be much harder than the other exams bc it is so random and some of the language was very foreign.

    It’s hard to balance working MCQ’s, Sims, and taking good notes. Taking good notes on important areas will help you make connections for the “big picture.” Working MCQ’s like a Madman, especially the more challenging ones will beat the basic concepts into your brain.

    Goodluck and just keep trucking through the reams of information! You got this!!!

    With REG I feel like u cant discard any chapters since it is all commingled to each other. Especially Not knowing what kind of comprehensive SIM will be thrown at you. On top of that we need to cover Blaw and circular 230.

    I combined various review materials for my second go around with REG. Except for few questions i believe it covered good ground of the actual exam, but with so many detailed and specific questions I had to go with my best instincts for some of them. I just hope some of my best guesses helped me pass this beast!!!

    @joonpark1212

    You explained REG perfectly. None of the calculations were too challenging, but the amount of minutia was insane. The New Reg Sims were much, much, much, harder than anything I have ever seen. They had an insane amount of information and documents and you really needed to pay attention to all of the little details. I really hope I passed.

    Goodluck everyone!! Study your butt off!!
