So I currently have a job that I love in Financial Accounting. Not that I am leaving anytime soon, but I want to know before it is too late. What are the major differences in the Financial Accounting career path vs the Audit career path?

I hope to one day become a CEO/CFO of a mid-sized (<500 employee) company. Do I switch to auditing soon or do I continue along with Financial?

It's hard to answer this. What kind of company do you envision yourself being a CEO/CFO at? Accountants typically aren't on a CEO path; some would even argue accountants aren't on a CFO path. Accountants are on a CAO path.

What exactly is your position and what do you do in Financial Accounting?

I just started so right now I am only just doing a whole bunch of different reconciliations for important accounts that hit the income statement. I calculate revenue and prepare a cash forecast. I also prepare journal & corrective entries.

I know my supervisor who is an accounting senior prepares the P&L (income) statements. I know she is currently learning how to consolidate the statement with our subsidiaries in Asia, she also did an inventory count.

I might have to ask my old boss, who is an accountant who has worked as a CFO, as well as the CFO of my current company (also an accountant), how they got to where they are.
