So I just failed FAR in Q2 with a 73 (absolute killer). FAR is the last test I have to pass to complete my CPA journey. First time around I used Becker and supplemented with the NINJA MCQ’s. On my score form it said I did comparable on SIMs and weaker on MCQ’s, which was a shocker to me. I’m retaking FAR on July 6 (about a month from today) and I decided to use the Gleim MCQ’s as my main study material & supplement it with NINJA MCQ’s. Has anyone used Gleim for FAR in the past? Has anyone used both Glein & NINJA? Any suggestions on which worked better? Any study suggestions for getting those extra two points will be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Hey man,

I take FAR on the 10th and am using Becker as well. I'm wondering how you used the program before? Did you do a lot of MCQs? If so how did you score on them?

It's interesting you did well on the sims which is usually where people struggle on FAR from what I've heard. I think you just need to pound the MCQs and I would think more repetition would be enough to get you a pass.

Hey Marantz,

When I used Becker going through all the lectures & doing the MCQ’s for each lecture. With about 2-3 weeks to go I used NINJA asking about 100-150 MCQ’s per day. Within the last couple of days I did 2-3 SIMs per day as well.

I was trending around 79-81 on NINJA (I forgot exactly what it was). I saw a lot of gov’t MCQ’s on the actual test. That was one of the areas I was weak in which shocked me because I felt confident I that area. Also, the second testlet seemed much harder. I’m using Gleim As my main tool this time becusse I read that it challenges you the most & come test time (if you can nail the concepts in Gleim) the MCQ’s seem much easier

Honestly man to me it sounds like you nailed testlet one which were the moderate difficulty MCQs and you did well on the sims, but you struggled on testlet 2 with the difficult questions. I think keep hitting those MCQs and when you take the exam (assuming you nail testlet 1 again) just slow down on testlet 2 and read the questions super carefully. Odds are there are likely a lot of tricks in these questions if it is the difficult testlet. That could be the difference for you imo.

I won't speak to the Gleim part of the question since there are a bunch of threads on that topic (a small fraction of those are pasted below). What I'll say is that you don't have that much ground to make up if you scored a 73. Whatever test bank you've been using, just use the reports to show you where your weak areas are. There has to be a couple (or more) areas that you score <70% in that you can hit hard prior to your retake. I am assuming gleim has a report you can run to show how you score in each subject area. If they don't, then get Ninja and build up 200 or so questions, then use the progress report to identify areas you need to improve. It's just 2 points. If you plug a couple of leaks, you will get there.

That's great advice. I did feel like I killed testlet one, but might have struggled with testlet two. I sometimes find myself rushing with questions. I'm gonna keep that in mind for my next go around.
