So this whole job thing is taking much longer than I thought. I am seeking IT/CPA related work, but given that I have no accounting experience, I might have to stick with healthcare IT consulting for now, and transition over within Big 4. One of the Big 4s actually gave me a verbal offer, then took it back. It was in their State & Local Healthcare practice.

I am bored, and I need another certification. What do you all think? CISA, CFA (no way lol), CFE, CIA, CGMA, CGFM, FU? I already have an MBA, PMP, and passed the CPA exams…

    Sorry I haven’t posted in so long…

It certainly can be rough out there as a non tradiational amounting hire with no experience, even having passed the cpa exam.

    CMA is another option.

As I work in insurance accounting, I found this designation called the AIAF, associate in insurance amounting and finance.

Since I was already working on developing my insurance accounting background, I figured I might as well get a designation in it.

I see barely any talk about it however so I am thinking that the designation itself will have less value than the personal professional developmental that i gain… but if I had 0 experience and was trying to break into the industry I could see it as a talking point or point of interest on my resume for potential employers.

Thanks Nazim. I am trying to break into IT Audit potentially, so thinking about CISA after CPA. I think my years of IT business consulting experience can help me get into IT Audit. But I am wondering if it is worth it at this point taking steps back. It has been a frustrating few months.

Are you a teacher? Or are you just doing Youtube videos to grow your business?

I am not a teacher nor do I have a business. You can say that the YouTube videos is to grow my professional brand. It's mostly a hobby and am element of my personal professional development. I figured I might as well produce something while learning and share it with others.

The experts say IT security will be a hot field but the experts often seem to overlook the ease of offshoring IT jobs.

I think IT security is going to stay hot, and with a US citizenship, I think we would be prime for NSA, CIA, DHS or other 3 letter government jobs. I do agree that IT jobs are always at risk of going offshore. I might get CISA and CISSP. Can't hurt during the job search…

@MOAC – I used to work at this particular Big 4, so I got referral from a Partner, which made me a shoo-in. I interviewed with the entire team (different group than when I used to work there), and they all gave a verbal “yes”. The managing director even said at the end of the interview that everyone said “you are good to go”. But then a month later, after I bugged the recruiter enough, she told me all projects are on hold or there are no projects available. I was stunned. I had stopped searching…
