    Hi all,

I finally passed the exams, but I know I am short of units (I have I think only 123 units only)…since CA changed their rule back in 2014 to make it more consistent with other 150-rule states….with that said, I only have a Bachelors..so I am lacking about 27 units I think?

I tried searching for options and Masters is really out of it since I got a family nd I cant take on loans right now so I was hoping anyone here took a non-conventional route and took courses in other means? Community College? If so, what classes did you take? and is there a credible online college out there that is acceptable?

I took three online classes from UCLA Extension to make up a 12-credit hour deficiency. There was no real application process and I didn't have to commit to a degree or certificate program. I literally just checked out via shopping cart! The classes were about $500-$600 each.

I have all the current requirements for licensing in CA but due to the changes in 2017 I will have to take an “ethics” class because I missed the deadline by a few months. Sucks so much..

My initial degree was in finance and then I went back to the same university and took another 30 credit hours of accounting classes and got my degree in accounting for my 150

Small4, how did you sit in for the exams? I think 150 unit is required to sit in. Anyway, I met the requirement taking classes from CCs (I don't have accounting degree). Once you pass, you will need another 30 units (ethics) to apply for the license. CC accounting classes are full of recent college graduates who need 150 unit and CPA candidates who pass the exams but need additional units. For online, please check Foothill College.

Yea I plan to take that foothill college ethics class to meet the new ethics class requirement. I should be good after that.

Ultrarunner, do you know if its too late to apply for the winter semester at foothill to take that class?

CA requires 120 units and specific courses to sit. For the actual certification, we need 150 units and specific courses (including the ethics course for 2017).

CPYay, you are right. You don't need 150 to sit in for exams. I got confused.

NeedaA75, I checked my portal at Foothill. There are offering 1 online class, which has 1 seat and 2 waitlist seats available now. I was waitlisted for a while for the summer class. Then, the school added late summer class later due to high demand. So you will never know.

Or please check Mission College. They offer online Ethics class in Spring: https://www.missioncollege.edu/class_schedule/2017_winter-spring/complete_schedule.pdf

What is the point of the Ethics exam? If you were an unethical person, wouldn't you just lie on the exam and select the response that is considered correct?

This needs to go away and fast.

so does foothill offer an eithics class during a “spring” quarter? I may just go for that one instead of trying to do the class + study audit + work full time

UCLA Extension is the simplest and the fastest path to gain additional credits. I remember that they are quarterly school system. Community College is the most inexpensive way to go.

    Congratulation on finishing the exam!

don't do extensions, they are highly over priced!. Look at at foothill college online classes. I took my extra credits in easy accounting, excel, and some other tax classes that could later serve me for me EA (after CPA), also few classes that were just for fun. Like nutrition, psyc, etc. They are $40 per unit I believe and it is all on-line!!!. You can take them all for CR/NC this way you can put minimal effort just make sure you are above 70% for credit. They also have the now required ethics course. I already have my 225 quarter units. I completed them all before preparing for CPA. Good luck

those of you enrolled at foothill….how was the application process? Is it straight forward and do you have to take any placement tests or anything? I currently meet all licensing requirements but as of 2017 will have to take the ethics class. So I'm literally enrolling to foothill take take 1 class. Any potential unforeseen issues with doing this? Are we sure this class meets the new licensing requirement?

NeedsA75, I took online Ethics class at Foothill. Literally everyone in the class is taking the class to meet the ethics class requirement. There are no placement tests required if you complete high education (e.g., college). But if the class requires pre-requisite, you will need to submit your pre-requisite course from other schools for an approval. Online Ethics class is very popular. Winter session is already booked. You may still find seats for Spring, but I am not sure.
