Im sorry for commenting in here since I haven't passed.. But I was trying to get some advice from those of y'all that have passed. As indicated by my score I am weak in FAR and there are deficiencies in my studies LOL. However, I feel like I am studying the same as I have for the other sections so Idk what I'm doing wrong for FAR. Just wanted to get some help from those that have passed this section. Thanks!

    AUD-63, 74, 80!!
    FAR-65, 62, 57, 79

It helped me a lot to read the summary of the chapter 1st! Gleim puts the summary at the end. Then that helped put the framework of the concepts in my mind – for me to “fill in” with the detail of the material.

I got a 62 on FAR first. I was feeling so overwhelmed. I kept thinking, “How do they expect someone to know such a wide scope of information?”. But once I started focusing on learning the “big picture” concepts 1st, It made it easier to retain more of the endless nuances, methods of inventory/depreciation/etc., and IFRS/GAAP differences.

Focusing on the Summaries first, really helps. It builds confidence too. Because the high level is relatively easy to digest, compared to the granularity of the rest of the material.

Read the chapter summaries 1st! Then read the book. (will give a repetition to help with remembering). Gleim has a testlet that's all conceptual questions called “focus questions”. Do those or test yourself on concepts with flash cards, some other means. Then studying and test a ton of example problems!

Hi everyone, congrats on passing the beast. I would really like to know about your success stories. What strategies you guys applied ? what materials & test banks helped the most ?

Any thoughts on Roger 2016 text book only + Gleim test bank combination ?

And to candidates who used Roger text book, how on earth did you complete this huge book which is of the size of a large brick and then how to retain this information in your head ? I also have Becker 2012 material which is almost have the size. It looks like a daunting task.

    Appreciate your feedback.

Congrats to everyone who passed the FAR! It is an overwhelming monster. I thought I would post what I did to pass so maybe it will help someone else. I actually developed my study strategy by reading these forums. My study material included Gleim, Ninja forums, and Google. Ninja study groups are a great place to look for alternative explanations to tough concepts. I also used google to get a deeper understanding of topics that gave me trouble. I followed Gleim's suggested study routine; quiz, watch vids, read, quiz. After I got through all of Gleim's study material I took as many multiple choice quizzes as possible. (Suggested by so many Ninjas.) Every question on the quiz that I failed or didn't understand I wrote down the question and answer. I believe after all was said and done I had answered over 2000 questions and attempted over 50 sims. Like so many others I walked out of the exam knowing I failed. I went on to study the BEC because I had already signed up for it at Prometric. I had to wait a month for my score and to my utter amazement, I passed! I followed the same routine for BEC and passed it as well. So, I have a lot of Ninja's to thank and Jeff for creating these forums. My biggest piece of advice is study, study, study and when you think you can't study anymore take one more quiz.

@Spartans92 – sorry to hear you didn't make it! I was feeling totally overwhelmed at the material in FAR until I realized I needed to give my brain some “navigational aids”. I used Becker all the way, but it should work with whatever materials you use, and whatever your note-taking strategy is.

START knowing the outline of the study materials. Becker provides one but I typed it out myself – it took about a half-hour per chapter, but doing it myself made me look at the structure and flow of the material, and notice relationships between chapters.

AS YOU READ/TAKE NOTES – make sure you know at all times where you are in that outline. When going through videos with the text, I added a header with the outline titles to every page as I reviewed it, so I always thought about that set of facts going with leases, or leasebacks, or bonds, etc.

NOTES/NOTE CARDS – I like to use note cards rather than pages of notes, it just works for me. I used those outline headers on the “title” side of every card. If I ran into trouble on an MCQ or SIM, I would add to the note card IN AN ACCENT COLOR so what the problems taught me would be emphasized.

USE HIGHLIGHT COLORS JUDICIOUSLY – I used three colors for three purposes: Yellow for the first run through with the lectures; pink for the second run through; and green to make all IFRS annotations “pop” out of the text. A friend uses every color of the rainbow, and it works for her, but above all be consistent with yourself so the colors help you as you flip through chapters, notes, or note cards.

The last thing, that my biggest cheerleader (thanks again, Mom!!!) kept saying to me: She knew I would pass because I used every available minute to study. If I had a doctor's appointment or event to attend, she would drive and I would run through flash cards or explanations of concepts in the car. If you can explain capital leases to someone else so THEY get it, then you really do understand it! Lunches at work meant MCQs on my tablet, or flash cards. My studying even became part of dinner conversations when I occasionally went out to eat. When everyone got upset about Trump getting away with not paying taxes because of operating losses? That became an opportunity to explain about NOL carry-back (2 years) and Carry-forward (20 years) and the deferred tax assets that are used to track them, and what tax rates apply. Maybe I bored a few people away, but if they stay away it's their loss. I WILL BE A CPA and they won't!

    I took FAR on 08/29/16.

This is my first time taking the CPA Exam in my whole life. I was a little nervous because I was taking the exam the first time. But not too nervous because I studied well and I love it.

When I got my score on 09/09/16, I have a:
    97

Wow! I thought it was hard but it wasn’t for me.
The MCQs are not as difficult as I thought. Even the difficult questions are short and easy. This is all thanks to my tutoring because I am a tutor for math (up to Calculus) and accounting (all levels). I just love accounting. 🙂

Move on to AUD next. Right? You may be for most people but not for me. Instead, I move on to REG next because math and numbers are my strong suits.

CPA Exam passer. All first time.
