    Hi all,

It’s almost summer time and people are starting to take days off. I just got curious and want to know how many PTO days you get in public vs private.

I know it would vary depending on the place and how long you’ve been working…but mostly interested in days for people with 1 and 2 years of experience.

It’s 15 days reasonable for first years in public/Big 4? What about in industry?

    Thanks!

    I'm in industry.

Each year I get the following on January 1:
    20 vacation days
    +
2 “flex days” off every month and 2 annual “flex days” = 26 days in total
    +
    10 holidays
    +
26 weeks of sick pay (15 weeks paid at 100% and 11 weeks paid at 60%).

Not enough, 10 days of PTO, you can buy an extra 5, sick days accrued, holidays.

Most holidays you get to leave early too.

That seems reasonable, I think. I get approximately 2 weeks (10 days) but we actually have to earn it. Meaning every pay period, we accrue about 3.5 hrs of PTO. I also get 80 of sick pay which we are automatically given every Jan 1st.

How do you guys do with PTO and utilization? If you take all your time off all at once, doesn't it hurt your utilization?

We “earn” 10 hours per month of PTO or 120 hours a year or 3 weeks PTO. We used to have seperate vacation and sick pay, but about 2 years ago they rolled into 1 PTO pool of time.

we also get April 16th as a paid holiday, we can take it any day after April 16 of the year, but must use the full 8 hours at a single time.

I can't remember off the top of my head by I think we get 10 paid holidays in addition to what's above

We don't have an official comp time policy, but when someone ends up working extra to get a job done, they are often given a day off the next week without having to use their PTO.

I work in Big four, we get 15 days of vacation, unlimited sick time.

When I worked at a national/regional firm (top 10), we got 12 days of vacation and five sick days. After my second year, I was bumped up to 15 days of vacation.

When I worked industry (six thankfully short months), we had ten days of PTO, which included sick pay time.

    Smaller local firm.

1st year given 5 vacation days + Holidays. You have to work up your Sick/Personal time (get around 6.3 hours a month). Paid OT 1.5x rate. Throughout the year you can get that paid out or use the comp time as time off. First year I was up to 37 days with the 5 vacation days given. I ended up using 14 days and the rest paid out. I also used some personal/sick time for cutting days short or supplementing with vacation days.

Second year we get paid OT but flat rate 1x. I got up to 30 days off with 10 days vacation given. I have around 50 hours personal/sick time to use. Sick/Personal time rolls over to next year. If I am not busy with an engagement I will clock out early at 3 any day of the week.

No real issues with asking for time off. I know when my engagements are so I usually take off when they are completed.

I work for a large, publicly traded company, upon hire we receive 15 paid days off (sick or vacation) and 11 company holidays. We also have a half day Friday program for the summer, although this gets a little tricky in accounting at month end close. I think my company handles it very fairly though. Every 5th year you receive an additional 5 days PTO, topping out at 30 days. No rollovers of PTO allowed.

Also, not that it impacts me personally, but, my company has a great paid maternity/paternity/adoption time program as well. 16 week maternity, 8 week paternity/adoption.

I work in a small town with Big4. First year gets around 15-16 days of PTO, to be used for vacation and sick days. We can also defer cash payment of busy season OT hours and use them for extra leave later
