[FAR_SUCKS]

I was planning on finishing FAR and then either BEC or AUD before starting work in mid-september, but after getting pummeled studying FAR for the last 3-4 weeks or so and only being through about 40% of the material I’m realizing that might not be realistic. Thinking of only taking FAR before I start so I can be able to study without insane stress every single day…

Curious as to what everyones plan is and whether its worth it to try and knock two out before starting…

I think you can knock out two. Did you do a diagnostic test for each section? Whichever is your strongest section I'd tag on after FAR. I did AUD and BEC in about 4 weeks each (and am a more than full time grad student) and it wasn't bad. However, REG absolutely killed me – and FAR's not much better.

I think you'll thank yourself for getting 2 in.

I start in October/November and have two, HOPEFULLY 3, done. Goal is to have them all wrapped up before I begin work. I was able to sit early in WA though so I had a little advantage doing them through school vs full-time work.

I graduate with my MBA at the end of this month and will (hopefully) have 2, maybe 3 done by the time I would normally want to start working. However, everyone is advising me to finish the exam completely before I start working. Luckily, I am blessed enough to be able to do that. I think it will be easier to be done with the exam before I start working so once I start a job I can focus all of my attention on that. However, I know that isn't possible for most individuals. Personally, I would say try to have at least two knocked out before you start working. I'd imagine studying every day after you get home from a full-time job will get old real quick. Good luck!

Have you scheduled your FAR test yet? If not, do it now so you can schedule your BEC or AUD. You'll never feel ready for any test, at least in my opinion. You need to put it on the calendar and bust ass till test day. Otherwise you give yourself room to slack, fall behind, and forget earlier chapter material.

Done! 9 tests over 16 months. Failed first 3 with Becker. Passed 4 of next 6 with Ninja MCQ.

Are you starting in public or private? Everyone's different but I was working for 8 years by the time I started the cpa process. Don't have kids but I managed to pass all 4 in 6 months while working 45-50 hours a week. I think testing while working benefitted me bc it forced me to be organized with my time. Had I been studying alone, it would have been tougher to not get distracted and slack. Plus your work experience might help you too. I drew from many things exposed to at work that really helped me while studying. Don't be afraid of working and testing.

Why the rush? I think rather than focusing on taking two or more. Put the effort to pass FAR in the first try. You can still work and pass test. We are all a proof of that. I have kids, I work in public, and here I am. So…Take your CPA like a full time job. Go through all your material and practice on Ninja for about 2-3 weeks. Go pass FAR. Enjoy your new job and continue your journey to become a CPA. =)
