    Hello everyone,

Have a few questions, Would be grateful if anybody could provide some info! Thanks a lot in advance.

    So here are my questions:-

    1. Can anyone here provide any inputs about how one can complete remaining credit hours for CPA licensure in CA? Any online courses you know or would suggest? (I am in Colorado by the way)

    2. When I got my foreign credentials evaluation done from NASBA for sitting for the CPA exam, I was given 142 credits. Would it apply for the licensure too or do I have to get it evaluated again?

    3. Is anyone here who used their ITIN instead of SSN in CA for licensure? Did the state board accept it?

Thanks again for your valuable time!

    1) I graduated from a UC. While I had many extra units from my extra minor at UCSD, I still took roughly ~37 units at a CC to fulfill my accounting and other requirements from licensure. You can TAKE anything, even PE. My personal advice is really research the class and see if you can take it without buying materials. I'm from SoCal, so I took classes at GWC, CCC, and OCC. My last classes were taken at Foothill. I recommend Foothill the most, bc the classes there are seriously a joke. Way even easier than the first 3, but the first 3 are PRETTY darn easy too.

    2) Those units SHOULD already apply for licensure. HOWEVER, when they deem you fit for sitting the exam, they only make sure that you have enough units to sit for it, which is 36 of this and that. You don't know how many units you REALLY need for licensure unless they or you calculate it.

    3) Cannot answer that since I used my SSN.

    1. I didn't have the accounting degree. So I took all accounting and accounting classes at Mission College and sat it for the exams.
    2. I believe my foreign credential was evaluated by the board (not NASBA). I didn't have 150 credits, but I was able to sit in for the exams. Once foreign credential was passed by the CBA, you don't have to re-submit it. When you apply for the license (once you pass the exams), the board will evaluate again to verify that you have 150 credits. Since they already have your 142 credits, all you need is to submit 8 more credits.

@ Hasy : Thanks for the info. So you mean I can take up extra credit hours at a community college? Then I might have to confirm from the state board whether credits from a particular college would be considered good by the board.

So I will have to get my foreign credentials evaluated again for licensure? Is that what you mean?

@ Ultrarunner : Thanks! What I am unsure about is whether I should complete the remaining 8 credit hours and then submit for evaluation again for the licensure.

I am done with the 3 papers and awaiting the result for REG in september. So, was just thinking of utilising the time to earn the extra 8 credit hours by that time, or at least start doing whatever course.

All the colleges I listed are accredited with the CBA. There should be a search feature on the CBA website that shows which schools are accredited or not. If you take units at an accredited college, those units should qualify you for licensure.

When you apply for licensure, they evaluate your transcript again to see if you have enough units to be licensed. Please call the state board to confirm. They're good at replying.

Hello neighbor! I am also in Colorado!

I would also recommend Foothill-De Anza, CA. This by far the most affordable college for non-residents compared to the others I researched. The application and registration process was a breeze!
I am currently taking two courses, Audit and Business Communication course (lost one credit during a transfer to another university) and I am registered to take Accounting Ethics in the fall.
The online courses are super easy, I wish there was an open spot in Ethics class so I could knock all three down during the short 6-week summer semester!

Your education credits will be re-evaluated for content. I had a total of almost 190 college credits between my Associates, Bachelors and Masters, all of which were in Accounting and Finance, but I was missing specific courses required for the licensure.

    Good luck on your journey!

@ Namstut: Hello there! Glad to know you are in Colorado! 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation and the link.

When I got my educational evaluation done before the exam, they had specified credits separately for both exams and license. And as per the report I have already fulfilled the specific courses for licensure and just short of 8 credit hours to make the total of 150.

Btw I mailed the CBA a few days back. And they said I don't need to send in my credentials again for evaluation if I take up the additional credit hours in the USA. 😉

Wish you good luck too! I hope you get your license soon! 🙂

Hi there! I would also reccommend Foothill/De Anza College. They have a plethora of online accounting classes that you can take and as hasy mentioned, they were very much affordable and manageable.

I myself have taken classes there to fulfill my requirements to sit for the exams after I graduated.

    @QueenofWhales: Hey!Thanks for the info!
All my education was from India. So I was wondering how will I be able to transfer the credits for the courses I take at Foothill? Can someone shed some light on this? Or do I just take up courses at Foothill and they will award me the credits?? I hope it makes sense!

    1. Yes, CA Board will evaluate your foreign transcript again.
    2. No, you CANNOT use your ITIN you need a SSN.
    3. After it is evaluated again if you are still missing credit hours, take the remaining hours at Foothill Community College, they have plenty of online classes for Accounting/Tax/Audit.
    4. Foothill doesn't need your transcripts from India, they don't care what you took. Just take classes that don't need a pre-requisite. Once you take this credit units. You will send Foothill Transcript to CA Board of Accountancy and “THEY” will give you credit for this college units.
    5. Before you enroll anyhwere. You must do your application in CA first and see what is needed.
