Happy New Year to NINJA community!! May this year bring happiness and prosperity. I have joined my State CPA society and one of the perks I get is to have access to CPAs directory who work in my City. My city have all the big 10 offices as well regional accounting firms. My question is how to properly and effectively make use of this directory for job hunt/networking. What are the Do and Don’t? I would highly appreciate your tips and advise. Thank you

P.S this directory has feature to show CPA contact information and company they work with or I can look up local office and it will show all the CPAs holder who work there ranging from Managing partners to Associates.

So weird. I've searched my outbox but could not find my original emails, kind of annoying lol. I even found a response, but it did not have my message quoted. Oh well. I blindly emailed people from the CalCPA registry back during my job search. My email was very short and to the point. Here is a rough idea of what I sent:

“Hi So and So, my name is acamp and I found you within the CalCPA registry where I am a student member.

I received my XXXX degree from XXXX, have started the CPA journey (passed BEC and REG; scheduled FAR and AUD ) and am very interested in joining XXXX firm. I wonder if there is someone within your recruiting function you can get me in contact with? My resume is attached.”

I landed an interview and eventual offer with EY after a partner was kind enough to send my email along to the recruiter. (fun fact: I blindly emailed that same recruiter previously and received no response haha)

    Good luck!
