I HATE REG

I took REG today (for the 2nd time) and I felt very prepared walking into the test center. I have been reviewing all my previous notes and writing even more notes while working through an additional 600 or so MCQ. I arrived early and reviewed my notes while relaxing by the lake near the center.

The MCQ section went very well and it definitely seemed like the 2nd and 3rd tests were “difficult”. When I clicked submit on the 3rd booklet I definitely felt that I had a strong chance at passing. I had almost 1 hr and 45 mins for the SIMS.

    And then the SIMS happened……

I found the research pretty quickly but 2 of the SIMS completely came out of left field. I had studied the topics but this went miles deep beyond what i had covered. Time was ticking away and I was searching the AL trying to figure out what in the heck to do! I’m pretty sure I got the research, the majority of SIM #1, and at least part of SIM #6 correct. I had a DRS that had many attachments and i was super annoyed. I spent a lot of time searching the AL trying to figure out the 2 odd SIMS but I didn’t get very far and had to plug a lot of 0s since my time was running out. At ten seconds left, I hit submit and it told me that I didn’t answer #4!!!! What the heck???? I’m pretty sure I answered everything even if it was just to put 0s.

It was a completely different test that the one I took the first time in November. Some of the “major” topics only had a question or 2 and that was unfortunate because I was very prepared for those!

I’m so frustrated!! I went to my car after I left and literally starting crying. I felt like throwing a childish tantrum and kicking and screaming and throwing something. This test has turned me into a freaking crazy person. I know I did well on the MCQ but I can’t see a passing score if I missed the majority of 2 SIMS and didn’t answer 1 at all! Looks like I will get to test out the new format in Q2.

I hate REG, I hate those stupid laminated sheets, I hate those stupid markers, and I hate not being able to use the restroom for almost 4 hours due to the hassle of those insane security procedures!

I’m starting on AUD tomorrow since there is nothing more I can do for REG at this point.

@lostinwonderland, I know the feeling!!! I did did a REG retake in the first week of January and I felt like I was well prepared. I had to guess some MCQs but overall I felt very comfortable about them.

I got to SIMs and one was completely foreign to me so I know I got it wrong, I got the research question wrong (checked after I got home), I should have scrolled through the AL, the answer was in the next paragraph. I completed one of the SIMs and then started second-guessing myself and changed my calculations based on a different assumption, than changed them back, then changed again. The original answer was correct.

I got in my car and wanted to scream from frustration!

And the laminated sheets and markers are the stupidest thing ever. Why can't we have paper and pens like normal adults? I am not in kindergarten! And the tiny screen, and the microscopic display, which you can't zoom in or out, which makes it impossible to see everything on the split screen.

There is nothing we can do at this point, wait for scores and then study hard under the new format. Blah…

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

    All Done!!!

I'm 2 weeks out from REG. One of the things I'm noticing is how difficult it is to recall everything I studied weeks ago. I've been trying to make a habit of doing MCQs from all sections once a day (even just a few of them) as opposed to just the sections I'm studying. I'm nailing the general concepts but some of the specifics are difficult to keep fresh. For example, how the heck am I supposed to remember depletion percentage methods for oil versus clay? UGH.

    Good luck!

I totally understand, this is exactly what happened to me last fall when I took REG (got a 73 🙁 ). The 1st testlet was easy, 2nd and 3rd were more difficult but I didn't feel defeated until I got to the Sims. But it sounds like you were pretty well prepared for your retake so I think you will be ok. And maybe there'll be a higher “curve” in Q1 that we can rely on… I am also retaking REG soon, in February. Good luck to you!!

    I crushed the REG mcq's

got crushed by the SIMS…I did find the research in about 2 minutes so that helped..

I figured everyone else must have done horrible on the sims, so I would at least get “comparable”. NOPE… “weaker”.

    was barely enough to pass.

Moral of the story – you can do badly on the SIMS, and still pass… at least that was my experience.

    AUD - 80
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 77
    REG - 79

^ U must have done very well on the MCQ's. I'm a little worried about being weaker in Sims for my recent Audit retake. At least I did very well with my MCW's though – I believe. Also, I am not looking forward to REG.

Omg I took it Friday and cried my eyes out in the car afterwards. I am sure I flunked it. I don't know how else to study. I freeze every time I take these tests and can't remember the simplest things. It's getting so embarrassing.
