I thought FAR was going to be the worst…. I’m really struggling with REG

I thought FAR was pretty terrible due to the amount of information, but at some point, a lot of topics just click and going through multiple choice really helped. Additionally, there were accounting principles you could apply to the questions to somewhat make an educated guess.

REG just seems like a bunch of arbitrary numbers and rules thrown together. Doing tons questions doesn’t really seem to help, except for just learning the format and what to look for. The questions aren’t really “tricky” like FAR can be. It’s just knowing what can be deducted, at what percentage, etc. I feel like I need to just continuously read the textbook and notes (or repetitively write stuff, which has never really worked for me).

Does anybody have any study tips for REG? Ways to better memorize some of the concepts? I’m guessing it’s just going to come down to spending a ton of time just reading notes and flash cards, but any tips will help. Thanks.

Its going to sound really boring, but reading the NINJA notes as many times as you can will put you over the edge. I cant count how many times I read that thing front to back on the train to and from work, and it helped me bump my score 13 points. Im in tax so the forms, and calculations came easy to me, but BLAW and a few of the other topics are so dry and boring its tough to get through. It helped me save time and put a lot of the concepts together rather than reading every single page of the book

Hey let me assure you REG is easier compared to FAR.If you feel FAR was not beast than you can pull REG easily.Just 4 chapters of Tax.Don't read business laws , do homework (I did Becker's).Ready 100 pages of contract laws will take lot of time and ultimately u wouldn't remember any thing.Straight to home work ( Ninja is good too ).
    Tax :Focus on basis.
Let me find out my old list of mnemonics and can post here. Not a great notes but helped me to remember the things ( skeleton in my brain ).

For Reg, I read through all the material, and then I mostly did MCQs, with a lot of SIMs added as well. I would not recommend reading/flashcards as your focus, but rather MCQs and SIMs. I did have the advantage for Reg of working in tax, but I would still recommend using this strategy. Currently studying for BEC and using the same study strategy as I did for Reg, with a few minor adjustments (mostly related to how Gleim suggests you study).

My general study habit for Reg was: Took many many quizzes, mostly focused on areas I didn't know so well. After each quiz, I reviewed every wrong answer in detail and made sure I understood the concept. It's a lot more time consuming, but it really helped my understanding. I didn't use any flashcards, and the only sections I read more than once were the ones I had difficulty understanding after reviewing why my MCQ/SIM was wrong. For my study materials I only used Gleim for Reg, which I think provides great explanations for why answers are wrong. Their MCQ/SIMs are also pretty difficult and prepares you well for the exam I would say, at least Q1 this year, not sure about the new exam. 3 days before my test I got a 74.45 with a full Gleim practice test, did MCQs/SIMs for the next three days, and ended up with a 93 on the exam.

With REG I have really just been pounding out MCQs. Eventually you will start to see pattern recognition in how to answer many of the questions. Business law/tax law is really like a puzzle so you just have to keep track of all the parts and know where/how it “fits in” to the equation.

I take notes on the more complex MCQs I come across and then I will read up on the more difficult areas using the NINJA BOOK or google search for what I need to know. Then I supplement with NINJA PLUS videos and NINJA AUDIO on an as-needed basis.

Also for REG, I recommend knowing all the basis calculations inside out.
