Hey guys. I started studying for audit about a week ago. my exam is may 4th so for becker, which is 6 chapters, thats roughly 1 ch. a week w/2 weeks of review. My audit class was a joke in college and so I’m learning this stuff new, literally. The lectures seem to be a bit overwhelming in terms of the amount of small details regarding the different wordings, rules, etc. and so I feel intmidiated by the lectures but I’ve been doing good on the MCQ.

A1 Modules 1-12 first time through MCQs I got:
87%, 80%, 80%, 94%, 80%, 86%, 77%, 85%, 75% , 78%, 70%, 87%

Should I not be concerned as I’m doing pretty well on the MCQ first time through? I always hear people saying hammer MCQ for audit so I hope that’s the case.

I was in a similar situation. My audit classes in college didn't help prepare me for the AUD exam at all. My best recommendation would be to read the book and do as many MCQs as possible. I know others have said they jumped right into doing the MCQs, but I like to go through the lectures and the book to get a grasp on the concept before starting the MCQs.

I assume you're using Becker as your review course. I recall that the first chapter or two's MCQs were relatively easier. As you move through the other chapters, more questions will try to trick you with their wording. I wouldn't worry about it though. With enough practice you'll be able to spot the tricky questions.

Took Audit twice…72 first time, 76 the second. I swore I killed it the second time but oh well, still passed.

Based on both tests I've taken, focus heavily on Chapters 5 and 6. I swear a third of my MC were on those Chapters alone. You're going to start asking yourself whether this is an Audit Exam or a Compilation/Review/Gov & Compliance exam about halfway through your multiple choice

With Audit, you have to closely follow the headings and subheadings of the topics just as much as you do for REG imo. My technique seemed to work pretty well for me, it consisted of:

– Going through the lectures all the way from Chapters 1-6
– In Word, creating an outline of every single page…literally starting with the chapter title, section title, subsection title, and all of the notes corresponding to those sections…this was my long draft so to speak
– In Excel, I created another guide, only this time with the important points from the initial long draft

I completed the long draft about 3 or so weeks before the test – by this time, I was about 60% ready for the exam, and the excel version maybe 2 weeks before – by this time, maybe 75%…of course, I'm doing MC the entire time as I'm going over the lectures. Anything I got wrong, I went right to the link that allowed you to refer back to the chapter and section the answer was in (Becker)

You're likely fresh out of school just like me, and if you were like me, you crammed a bit and got good grades in the end. This is no different. I did the first mock exam a week before the test, another than following Wednesday, then that Thursday I did the progress test from Chapters 1-6 (100 questions total) just to see different questions and to shore up weaknesses – by this time, I was about 85% ready, and then another mock that Friday night (this way, I was able to train my brain right before the test rather than 2 and 3 weeks before and then get brain fog when it was test time) and then took it on Sunday…All day Saturday and Sunday Morning, I reviewed all of my weak areas and made sure there was no possible way I would miss doozies (Don't sleep on Chapter 1…it seems straightforward you probably want to spend as much time there as you do on Chapters 5 and 6) – By this time, I was 100% ready. This also helped because all of the stuff I totally didn't know was fresh in my brain come test time. I swear I saw maybe 8 questions I went over during that last week on the actual exam.

Now of course, I had taken audit already so I knew what to expect come exam time. Perhaps you'll want more time to review.

All in all, do about 750+ MC questions from at least 2 or 3 sources, do all 3 mock exams even if you have to treat one as a dummy exam for actively identifying your weak areas, and review Chapters 5 and 6 again the morning of…listen to the AICPA professional ethics related lectures, sampling, and the cycles during your commutes/drives all during the last two weeks to supplement your studying
