I stumbled upon a website today for the Institute for Internal Controls. It looks like they offer a couple of certifications including CICA. After running a quick search on LinkedIn, I see several people with the CICA certification. Does anyone know if this is some sort of niche org or are they trying to piggyback the IIA? The website (theiic.org) seems kind of outdated and the domain is eerily close to the IIA’s (theiia.org).

Were you able to find additional info on this organization? I noticed that some of my co-workers added the designation to their signatures, but like you said, their website seems outdated and not well thought out. I was looking for the requirements to become a CICA and they were not clearly spelled out. I am a CPA and CIA myself, and i'm mostly curious from an internal controls standpoint as to what this certification has to offer.

    Thanks!

I think COSO's certificate is probably a more robust and well-known certificate even though its new. Its actually based on concepts that are directly integrated with the whole CPA exam.

I actually talked to some of my co-workers that “obtained” the CICA, and they practically bought it. They have this grandfathering provision that allows you to get it if you have other certifications and/or certain years of experience, which is not good in my opinion. I liked the CIA curriculum, because it teaches internal control standards from standard setting bodies from around the globe (Canada, Great Britain and others), but the COSO certificate sounds good.
