International Credential Evaluation for CPA

Hi guys! Here are my stats:

    * Canadian citizen, US resident. I’ve lived in the US since 2007.

    * 4 year undergraduate engineering degree from a top Canadian School

    * MBA 2009 grad from a top-15 US school.

I am currently working on compiling the accounting course hours necessary for a Massachusetts non-reporting CPA license.

One hurdle that I have is that I did my undergraduate degree in engineering in Canada.

None of this engineering degree will count towards CPA accounting/business requirements, but I think I need to include this as part of my150 hour requirements.

    A few questions:

    The NASBA Licensing website says:

APPLICANTS WHO OBTAINED THEIR EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES MUST HAVE AN EVALUATION REPORT COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BY NASBA INTERNATIONAL EVALUATION SERVICES OR THE CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTATION (CED).

    These are my questions:

    1) I think I will need to have some kind of International Credential Evaluation done for my undergraduate education, even though I don’t need it to satisfy the accounting-course requirements? Or are some Canadian etc schools exempt from this?

    2) Should I get the $300 “International Credential Evaluation for CPA Examination/Licensure for Undecided Jurisdiction” from NASBA International Evaluation Services ?

    3) Or should I get a $175 “Evaluation for CPA” from the Center for Educational Documentation (CED)?

    4) Or do I need to get BOTH 2) and 3) ? Are they substitutes for each other? Is one better than the other?

    It’s all kind of confusing.

    Hey WendyW

    What State are you in?

I m in California. And I used ACEI. they evaluated my diploma promptly within two weeks. I paid 165$

I have MS in Mathematics. I earned that degree outside US.

I completed Accounting Certification Program and that school sent the transcript to the CA State Board.

After that I was eligible to sit for exam.

Depending on what state are you in there is a list of accredited evaluates available. I picked the first on a list. I think they all pretty much the same.

I'm in Texas, undergrad in Science (Ag Bus) at University of Alberta …I was told to submit my transcripts and they would let me know if they needed to be evaluated. They accepted them without an international evaluation, and some of the coursework did relate to the accounting/business requirements not just the 150 hours.

I also had a Canadian degree. I did need an evaluation for KS and they had a specific service they preferred. IL evaluated by transcripts themselves. But check with your specific state board to find out if they have a preference as to what service you use or if they want to just see the transcripts.

Otherwise, the process was pretty painless.

I personally had some specialized stats classes that I drew attention to and asked the evaluation service to give them special attention to see if they satisfied a specific requirement from my state. They did.

Based on Cndgoose's experience, it seems that it's worthwhile for me to submit my transcripts etc without first doing the international evaluation.

It's not like they need to translate them from a foreign language or anything.

The worst that could happen is that they direct me to have the international evaluation done.

    Hi Guys,

I recently wrote IQEX exam based on my Canadian Chartered Accountancy certification. I am a Canadian Citizen and currently do not have US residency or US citizenship. I intend to work in California and would like to obtain licensing in California. I did note that although CBA (California Board of Accountancy) accept IQEX as Type E applicants, nevertheless there is this baccalaureate degree requirement with 150 total semester units including 24 semester units of accounting subjects, 24

semester units of business related subjects, 20 semester units of accounting subjects, and 10 semester units of ethics study. The problem is that I had my baccalaureate degree from outside of US and Canada and I dont think that it would meet the requirements (not in entirety atleast). Not sure what are the other options here?

I thought with MRAs executed by NASBA for IQEX, IQEX would be acceptable for licensing with different states and I would not have to go through this degree requirement. Can anyone please provide help here?

    Thanks

hi guys! I recently passed all my cpa exams and preparing to apply for the cpa license in the state of hawaii. I earned my credentials from a foreign school and in compliance w/ the requirement I had my credits evaluated (by an acceptable agency at that time)ybefore I took the exam and result by then showed that I earned about 200 credit hours, way more over the required to sit for the exam & hawaii license of 150 hours. Unfortunately, after I passed the exam, I received a letter from nasba that there were some changes made regarding the educational process for the Hawaii examination/license. That I was grandfathered in with the foreign evaluation company that had completed my foreign education for the Hawaii CPA Examination, but the Hawaii Board of Public Accountancy has now required only the NASBA Int'l Evaluation Services to confirm educational requirements portion for licensing as a CPA for Hawaii. Therefore, I applied for NIES evaluation. I just received the evaluation from them and it appeared that I only have 125 hours. That means now I didn't meet the 150 credits.

Knowing this, what should I do now?

Should I contact our board of acc? Or do I wait them to call me? Or should I go ahead and enroll to get some credits?

I'm not sure what to do.

    Thanks,
