Hi everyone,
I wonder if audit experience is required when applying for the CPA license in NY State. I’m working at a small public accounting firm. The firm only provides tax service and no audit. One of my classmates who just applied her initial CPA license, told me that audit experience is required and the Board requires certain amount of audit hours. I am so confused now.

No audit experience required..He is incorrect. As long as you work under a CPA registered in NY you are good to go. I work in a family office and my supervisor signed off no problem!

They changed the rules in 2009, no longer a specific hour requirement for audit or anything else. Just need the 1 or 2 years depending on education.
You should read the NYS CPA forms and requirements directly from the NYS CPA Board website.
Your classmate is an asshole for providing false information.

I personally confirmed this with the Board via e-mail so I have written proof.

@JoannaCW. It is not a cpa firm. They hold investments in sport teams and real estate for the most part. I guess it is alright lol, it isn't in the city which is a plus
