Is completing an advisory evaluation a waste of time (CPA exam, NJ)?

I’m in the middle of applying for the CPA exam and I am unsure whether or not I should compete an advisory evaluation to verify whether or not my credits will satisfy the 150 credit hour requirement, as by the time my evaluation is processed it is likely that the add/drop period at my local community college will be over.

I just graduated with 134 credits from Rutgers University whose accounting program satisfies the accounting credit requirements as per the NJ State Board.

For the last 16 credits, I’m planning on going to an Middle States accredited community college. I’m looking to take easier courses (criminal justice, hospitality, communication) in order to maximize the amount of time I can devote to studying for the CPA exam. I didn’t take any courses in these subjects during my undergrad, for what its worth.

Is it likely that ANY community college courses will suffice? I tried contacted the NJ State Board, and have not heard back yet.

Applying for the CPA exam now!

I'm PA, but have some jersey classes…

In PA, community college classes count…I don't know how the accreditation bodies work, NJ, like PA, is probably Middle States, but I do think community college courses are going to be fine. I've never heard of an issue with community college accreditation. It's the for profit and tech schools you have to be careful with.

I hate this process…they tell you you need courses in X, X and X…but they won't ever tell you beforehand YES, this class from ____ counts as X! I didn't take their evaluation, but in the back of my mind, I'm slightly worried. I tried to make sure my accounting/finance courses were as cut and dry as possible. I found out afterwards that I had a few BA/undergrad classes that I could have applied to the standard and didn't (I didn't think macro would count, and had forgotten I had it anyway)…so I ended up taking an extra course or two.

In retrospect…I wish I'd done it.

    AUD - 96
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 89
    REG - 86
    Aaron and always remember, YMMV

I profit from your CPE frustration. You're welcome.
