Is it Appropriate to Apply online to a firm twice?

Hi everyone! I have applied to a few mid-tier CPA firms in August, like 8, and I haven’t received a reply back from any one of them, maybe because I don’t really know anyone there. I expect to pass my exams by February. Would it be appropriate to re-apply maybe in April or May to the same firms to see if they have any spots open for the summer or Fall of 2017. I am a recent graduate and I am currently working as an accounting associate at a private company in the bay area. I know it’s important to be realistic but I don’t want to completely give up either. Thanks for your input 🙂

I don't think so. But I feel might be more “efficient” use of your time, maybe find the recruiter for that particular company on Linkedin and maybe send them a message?

Also, take a hard look at your resume and take words from their job posting to put it IN YOUR RESUME. I know out of the many applications I sent to bigger firms, I got like 2 replies from recruiters and found them easily through Linkedin. I think they replied faster to my linkedin request than me waiting for them to reply back through that job portal.

I do think you definitely have a chance right now to start applying to firms. Try to see if you can make it through this recruiting cycle. Right now is the prime time for looking for jobs that start Fall 2017. Good luck!

If they haven't replied, go for it. It's certainly not appropriate for them not to reply to you.

I don't think there's a hard-and-fast rule on this, but I'd say after 3 months, it'd be OK to apply again online. As others have said, trying to reach out and contact people will probably be useful, too, but it'd be OK to apply online again as long as some time has passed. So, having applied in August, if you were asking “is it OK to apply again today?” I'd be hesitant, but in a couple more months? Sure, go for it.

As a recent grad, I'm guessing that you've been at your current job for a relatively short time, so another 3 months (based on my idea above ) or 7+ months (based on your Apr-May idea) will make a huge difference in your resume.

    P. S. Make sure you do update your resume between submissions. A resume should be always evolving and improving. Your accomplishments and duties at your job in 7 months should be better and different than they are today. If they pull both your applications, you want them to be able to see that growth. Chances are they won't pull both, but if they do, you don't want them to see 2 identical resumes. And…if there was something wrong with the first one, then hopefully they'd see that the resume 7 months later caught the error and corrected it.

Hmm, looking at my reply again, I think I may have worded it incorrectly. I don't think it's INAPPROPRIATE to apply again if you've already applied before. But let some time pass first and also, change your resume to what the job description is asking. Also changing the status of your exam passing.

I don't think its inappropriate at all, but do know most large employers retain applicatons/resumes for a year so they may recognize that they'd already reviewed your credentials.
