Depends. How many hours are you able to study per week?

6 to 7 hours per day.

I know that ones who have TAX background will find it little easy as far as REG is concerned. But is it necessary that one needs to have a prior background for clearing REG ? Like in my case, I don't have.

    You have any tax experience?

Reg, for me, wasn't terribly difficult. With that in mind, I have prepared tax returns before. I found it to be more memorization than the other exams. Each tax item has so many nuances that there's a lot to cram into your head, so it's not “easy.” Again though, it's definitely manageable.

A lot of people have found this exam to be brutal, so I guess it all depends on your strengths.

B=84 This exam was such a b**** that I thought I failed-don't know how these things work
A=76 Slacker I am, I'll happily take it
    R=81 I LOVE taxes
F=80 I don't wanna get banned for an expletive I'm thinking with "yea" proceeding it

3 weeks is a bit on the low side esp. with no tax experience. Maybe you are a good test taker? You would have to treat this like your FT job and study like 40-50 hours a week to get to the 120-150 hours the AICPA recommends. It won't be easy that's for sure. It took me 6 weeks with tax experience, but I only studied 20-25 hrs a week b/c I work FT

I would say it depends. If, you only need 2 weeks (10 days) to work through MCQ and another week to review, it is more than doable.

For MCQ–assuming NINJA–you could do blocks of 20Q, for each major topic group corresponding to NASBA's 5 or 6. When you achieve 80% or better twice move on to the next topic. Incorporate the solution to MCQ you find troubling or increases clarity in some way, as needed, if you take notes.

Once you complete MCQ practice, I would go through the SIMs Jeff set aside that correspond to each major topic group. There's a forum post with the list on the MCQ home page. The SIMs will give you another perspective at the same material.

At the beginning of the last/third week, run through the MCQ Jeff identified as AICPA recently released. There should be four groups of 20 or so MCQ.

Then, do a batch of 20 MCQs for an area or two you feel weak about.

    There's your 3-week plan.

I think it is definitely manageable. For me REG was the one I most stressed about because of the amount of material and my lack of experience, but if you put in the time it won't be impossible. I studied somewhere around 7 weeks, but for the first 5 weeks I studied maybe 10 hours. Then about 50-60 in the last 2 weeks.

I would recommend using the AL for REG also. I tried using it for FAR and AUD and it wasn't that helpful, but I was able to figure out a few of my SIMS just by using the AL.

I passed REG on my firs try with only 3 weeks of studying. Maybe 60-70 hours total studying. With that being said, I had 2 Years of Tax Experience which I believe made a tremendous difference. That exam is now expired so I'll have to do it again but I'll probably only study 3 weeks again. That was the only exam I passed on my first try.. I have had a very difficult time with all other tests. I think Experience really helps on these exams.

The CPA journey is truly a nightmare.

Unless you have an amazing talent on test taking. I would say no. I did it in three weeks with 55 hours of study (recorded actual hours) but I've been working in a small boutique firm for about a year. The firm has exposed me to all types of tax (individual, business, partnership, trust etc). So I was able to skim through the basics and focus on the details and a solid week of finishing all MCQs in Roger and enough in Ninja to average 80s. I passed with an 82. If you don't have tax experience I would say 5 weeks @ 7 hours is good. or 5-8 weeks @3-4 per day.

Maybe you could do it in 5 weeks. I did it in 6 weeks. I have never worked in tax and have only taken one individual income tax class.

    Why the rush anyways?
