    Hello international folks,

I am currently working at a Big 4 in NY, with an active CPA license and AICPA membership. I am preparing to move to London for 2 years this September where I will continue to work in another Big 4 firm.

Question – how do you keep your license active during this period?

    Thanks!

Why don't you check with your supervisors? Surely, they get asked this all the time and would want to assist you to make sure you remain up-to-date.

Should be as simple as doing online CPE, right?

    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92

I think there might be a limit to amount of hours you can do CPE online. But I don't see any problem with doing internal CPE at your firm. I don't think it matters if you're out of the country or not.

Look into the NY state board rules for CPE exemptions. In Texas, you can get an exemption for the period you will be residing elsewhere, but you have to submit a sworn statement that you have met/will meet your resident jurisdiction's CPE requirements and that you will not service Texas-based clients from out-of-state while you are claiming the CPE exemption. I would imagine other states have similar policies.

That said, to remove the exemption, you have to make up any CPE you've missed during the exemption. So it may be easier to try to just get the CPE while you're away. I'm willing to bet a Big 4 firm has a procedure for this, considering there are a lot of American CPAs working in their foreign offices.

Thank you everyone! (I got super excited and hiya'ed my own post as well).

I did some research and it looks like doing tons of e-learning and collecting CPEs will be sufficient enough.
