Letters of Experience – do they call?

Totally confused about what to ask my employer to write for my experience verification for the state of MA, should they include contact information? How specific should they get? Do I ask my employer as if it were a reference and tell them they will be called to verify experience? Or is their signature enough? Does anyone know if the state verifies employment beyond the letter? Just trying to set expectations with an employer I haven’t spoken to in a while…

Not sure about MA, but NY has a specific form to fill out for the employer/supervisor that is attesting to the applicant's experience.
Does MA not have a similar form?

no form! it just asks for a letter on letterhead. it doesn't even state what should be included

Applicants must submit a letter that describes the applicant’s experience, it must be attested to, under the pains and penalties of perjury and signed. Letter must be attested to, under the pains and penalties of perjury by a licensed CPA employer, partner/shareholder of such public accounting firm, government CPA supervisor or CPA supervisor of non-public employer.

My employer signed off on the form, and also included an additional signed letter on company letterhead as further reference.
My employer was also the notary that stamped and signed for my signature on my Form 1 application.
They currently have not called the office to verify anything, but my application is still in process (14 weeks so far).

I would expect the worst and hope for the best? It appears that you as the applicant need to write the letter providing a description of your employment, and your employer or supervision just needs to attest (sign) the letter? I could be reading that wrong.

Here is a link to the NYS form 4B. This may help you brain storm as to what information should be included in your letter.

    https://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpa4b.pdf

Pages 3 & 4 contain the fill in areas. Pages 1 & 2 are just instructions but might help as well. Good luck.

@reckedracing Thank you for the form. The MA regs stop at approximately this level of description: providing accounting services or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills under the supervision of a certified public accountant.

I had planned on drafting a letter and trying to speak to those items as best I could, but the NY form is much more explicit in terms of what each of those activities entails, and will be very useful in mapping my professional experience in non-public into a format that is readily understood by the board.

    Much obliged.

Also, for what it's worth, my reading of the regs is the same as ReckedRacing, in the sense that I plan on drafting the letter and having a manager attest that the information it presents is correct. Since one of the requirements is that the signatory be a licensed CPA, I had planned on including the CPA's license # and state of licensure as well.
