Hey everyone. This is my first time ever posting. Hopefully, someone can be kind enough to help. I was thinking about taking 5 LSu’s Distant Learning coures to sit for the CPA. I have a few questions to ask before taking the Courses. The questions are as followed:

    1. Has anyone ever taken 2 Accounting courses at one time?
    2. Are the exams difficult?
    3. I see the price for the courses on the website but how much is the Proctor exam fee?
    5. Which courses are the easiest to take first?

    Looking for good advice.
Thanks in advance to anyone who reply!

I took all of my accounting coursework through LSU ODL. I had a great experience with them overall.

    1. I took 2 at a time a couple of times, and it isn't so bad. Just know that the intermediate accounting courses are a little challenging.
    2. The exams are pretty fair. The only one that I thought was a little difficult is individual taxation. You will be fine with a week of studying for each one.
    3. The ProctorU fees have varied over the years, but generally expect to pay around $30 per exam, which is comparable to a formal examination center. A huge benefit is that you can take your exam almost whenever you want 24/7. I've had a few times where I say “I want to take my exam now” and ProctorU sets me up within 15 minutes to take it right then.
    5. Most of the courses require the first two introductory courses and intermediate 1 before you can take them, but after that you can take everything except for auditing. You will need intermediate II and AIS before you take that. I personally enjoy fraud examination and governmental accounting and thought they were the easiest. The most tedious was cost accounting, but they have made it a little easier than before. Individual taxation isn't hard overall, but the exams can be tricky.

    Enjoy!

@LavenderGal I took 3 classes through LSU. The courses themselves were fine, the tests were brutal though. If you can pass LSU's classes with a decent grade, you can pass the CPA exams.

Also, ProctorU was awful to use. The staff is inept 99% of the time, and there were several occasions were the instructor said certain things were allowed on the test, and then when I went to take the test through ProctorU, the test administrator would have an entirely new set of conditions not in line with the teacher's previously mentioned guidelines.

The fact that you can take a bunch of higher level accounting classes at your own pace is a huge advantage, but just be prepared to study a lot for the exams. One final fun fact: if you are not sure how you will do on the final exam… Know that if you don't pass it , regardless of your grade in the class, you will automatically fail the course per LSU grading policy.

@rocklobster thank you for your reply. Yikes! Looks like I'm going to study very hard and keep a steady pace to pass. 😊Again, thank you!
