Do you guys listen to music while studying? It helps me to focus. I don’t know if it can affect my learning process though.

When I study it has to be dead silent with absolutely no distractions or music. I will usually sit in my room with the door closed and study. Even if I have my music on extremely low volume, it still distracts me. I can't completely comprehend the material when listening to music.

I did it when I was going through the MCQs and felt burnt out. To me it was more important to be engaged in the material so when I felt that music helped with that I went for it. At the time I was worried that it could affect my learning process but I saw that my average score kept increasing so I kept doing it.

I either need complete silence or I listen to certain music on youtube. I search for “study music” and depending on the mood i'm in, I'll listen to classical, instrumental or just music put together with certain sounds (ie alpha waves are supposed to be good for studying/concentration/memory). Nothing with lyrics though.

I find that white noise also helps. I like to change it up. You don't want to get too used to complete silence. On the day of my AUD test, I used the noise canceling headphones because a lot of people were taking a different test that required a great deal of typing. It wasn't so much the typing that distracted me but the person with an extremely loud cough sitting right next to me for at least an hour.

I listened to Piano Guys radio and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart radio on Pandora and even paid the monthly fee. Both instrumental. Piano Guys is more up tempo so I had to switch that off sometimes. I did not listen to music while doing MCQ though, just reading or re-writing notes. It helped me stay focused. Plus, it's beautiful music.

I always had to listen to music when I was studying. It was a compromise my husband and I had, I had a workstation set up in our bedroom that faced away from the TV so we could be in the same room together but I could focus on studying. Even when I was home alone, I couldn't stand absolute silence. i listened to a lot of ocean wave or thunderstorms.

@REG-FTW86 – Your comment in your signature about watching TV made me laugh. I am the same way. I passed the final section back in May, and I am still struggling with feeling like I should be doing something instead of reading or watching TV all day.
