So I took FAR yesterday for the, ahem, third time.

This was the first new exam attempt. And I have to say, I like the SIM doc reviews tremendously more than the filling in blanks or drop boxes. It really does feel more like real life accounting, which is a nice change.

It seems that I may be the only one who feels that way from what I read in the forum so far, so I wanted to offer test taking advice to anyone who is scared of the Doc Reviews.

First off, it is also my natural inclination to panic when I see the Docs. It is a lot to review. But it seems very methodical, so take a deep breath and get ready to read and remember. You usually have two paragraphs up top that sets the scenario and give information that may or may not be relevant.

Then you have multiple paragraphs that require review that may require supplementary resources that also may or may not be relevant. You have to correct blue lines in the paragraph based on the supplementary information. Review the headers of the resource docs so that you can keep them in mind while you are reviewing the document. In my experience it seemed like the resource docs are almost in the exact order of the memo paragraphs. Just think of each memo as 1. multiple choice question. In 15 or 20 minutes you should have it all tied out!

I would pay CLOSE attention to ALL of the details. I caught some tiny errors from missing key information that wasn’t presented in the most obvious way in my review before closing out the testlet.

I have no idea if I passed, because for whatever reason, I felt like I struggled through half of my multiple choice. They kept hitting details that I was feeling unsure about. FAR is such a brat.

I just took AUD under the new format and I feel the same way about the SIMS. I feel that these SIMS were much more practical, real world examples than I had on my FAR and REG tests. I know that the document style SIMS take longer to complete but I feel that you have a much better chance of getting the correct answers if you know your concepts. But I guess having 3 years of audit experience might have helped, as well.

    AUD - 88
    BEC - 83
    FAR - 79
    REG - 91
    Done!
