I will save any CPA Exam tips until after I am done, but I will offer a piece a select few tips for interviewing.

    1. If you can schedule it in this way, do NOT have the place you want to work at be one of your first three interviews. Interviewing is like a relationship. You aren't really sure how to handle it at first, you might say the wrong thing and get funny looks, or you might be so nervous and wind up not saying a word at all. Don't lie, we've all been there in relationships. You need to be comfortable with who you are speaking with. Interviewers can tell by body language and how well you articulate if you have self-confidence. Just like in a relationship, self-confidence is attractive.

    2. REMEMBER: They aren't just interviewing you. You're interviewing THEM. Who are they anyway? Possibly your future manager? So what…they're still just a human. They go home and do the same types of thing as anyone. They were once in your shoes. So, you have to feel this is the right company for you. They could love you all they want but if you aren't going to enjoy working there, then what's the point? This also boosts your self-confidence (remember how attractive that is??)

    3. Which leads me to the next point. ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS. Once you're done chit chatting and they tell you about their vacation they just got back from which you hope to be doing one day, they will ask you if you have any questions for them. This is rhetorical. OF COURSE YOU DO! I'm sure you know not to ask what the salary is, or how many sick days you get, but do you know what questions TO ask? If you are prepared, you had these questions ready in advance. You Googled the company or industry and thought of relevant questions in that matter, showing the interviewer you did your due diligence. “In regards with ABC Company's new relationship with XYZ Company, do you think this would impact your day to day responsibilities or do you see it as a new opportunity for yourself and the company?” But remember when I said you're interviewing the company as well? “Does ABC Company find ways to motivate their employees to consistently be A+ employees, rather than eventually slipping to Bs and Cs?” You want to know WHAT HAVE THEY DONE FOR YOU LATELY? It happens. People start at a company and start off strong. They come in early, stay late, and take on extra tasks. But if that company doesn't recognize this, eventually this employee will fall in line with the rest and become an average, mundane, 9-5er. Trust me. You don't want this.

So this was just a brief introduction into the world of interviewing. Feel free to ask any additional questions, and who knows…maybe eventually I'll make a post about this and I might get a change to be on the Sticky Wall of Fame!

    Thanks!

    DONE!!!!

Used Becker online. Who needs a text when you can burn your eyes out staring at the screen for months on end?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you're hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

The most overlooked thing to do when studying is remembering to take time for yourself. No one knows you better than you. A 5 minute break does wonders when it comes to anything.

Exam and Interview tip double whammy!

Always try to reach the venue of appointment half an hour to an hour early and get yourself comfortable before beginning the real deal. This way, you will beat the traffic and put yourself at ease by reaching early. Also, going to the loo before starting the exam/interview can be helpful in releasing stress.

What has worked for me thus far and are my tips to you. First review the lectures and take notes. Then read the chapter with taking a break after each section to answer the questions for that section. On the questions that I get incorrect, I go back to the chapter to read that section again and make notes on it. Writing the information down helps me to remember the concepts. Answering the questions per section after reading that section helps instill the information further into my brain 🙂 (at least I hope it does). I do this process for the entire book. Then I go back and read the entire book again (but I do not reanswer the questions except for the areas that I know that I am weak in). I have also purchased the NINJA notes for Auditing which I found very helpful. I do take the two days prior to my exam off from work to cram which has helped me. I do not rest my brain prior to the exam. That technique does not work for me. I hope that you find my tips helpful! Thanks.

If you don't win the Combo….buy it!

Listen to Audio while running and cleaning. Flip through flash cards on your smart phone while sitting around and in bed instead of playing games. Listen to the Audio. Lastly try to find extra time with your iPad working on MCQ and getting as close to the review stage as possible. (takes a lot of questions and time)

As far as finding extra time to study, an hour in early morning and late night while scheduling time away in 2-4 blocks of time for study. This has been great practice for me and I'm hoping to go 3 for 3 after missing my first exam.

Exam Tip: Do not try to understand all the material before starting to practice questions. Start practicing as soon as you get through each topic/area.

Exam Tip: Some swear by taking a day off here and there to refresh the mind. I would advise to schedule some “easier” days with maybe only an hour of review. Look at something everyday, but switching up the work load can give you the same sense of rest without completely skipping a day of studying. I find it's very hard to skip a day and then start back up again. But if I make sure to look at some flashcards, or do a set of MCQ, I'm still in the habit of studying and won't break my long-term focus.

    CPA Exam tip:

Make sure to constantly review! I have only taken FAR and read through all the chapters and did multiple choice, simulations, watched the videos, etc. but never really took the chance to review the material until the final review period. At that point, I was pretty much just re-learning most of the information those last 2 weeks. It would have been much more effective to constantly review the material every few days though taking doing MCQs or looking over flashcards. I have noticed I am retaining much more information in studying AUD because I make sure to review daily!

Interview tip: I once read to wear something purple to an interview, and you're a sure win to get the job. I have always worn something purple, whether it is a scarf, necklace, hair ribbon. I can't even remember the logic but it's a tip I share with people and others have told me it works!
