I am only using NINJA study materials: the 10 Point Combo. I utilized almost everything for BEC – which I passed; however, (no offense to Jeff) I feel like the most helpful tool was the Bisk/NINJA Plus videos (and the MCQ). So, when studying for FAR, I have pretty much only used the NINJA Audio and the NINJA Plus videos to date. My concern is that due to the age of the videos that I might be missing out on changes to the material. I know it’s a ton of information, but does anyone know of anything in the videos that is wrong/outdated? Obviously, there aren’t too many people out there that would both A) have watched the Bisk Videos in their entirety, and B) be an “expert” on what is “right” based on some other materials – but any little piece of dated information would be helpful. I am only concerned with FAR right now. Thank you!

Fresh or not I’m using them. The videos give me a quick, verbal summary on calculations.

Well, 21 hours left… I guess I, too, will solely rely on Bisk Videos – fresh or not – and MCQ.

I’m doing the exact same thing. Initially I read the ninja text and then went on to the MCQ. I was trending in the high 50s low 60s. I stopped doing MCQ and went through the bisk videos and when I returned to MCQ I quickly started trending in the high 70s. I noticed that Bob mentions extraordinary items a few times in the videos, that was really the only thing.

Here is another little one: Deferred Tax Assets and Liabilities are ALL classified as NON-Current. Presumably an effort to converge with IFRS.

When the video say “know this” I write it down. I was tossed should I keep going or should I just do the mcq’s but I think I’m going to keep doing both. (mcq trending low). 25 days til testing….so much anxiety, Oh Lord my nerves.

@Kimble good call on the tax assets…that really screwed me up….I was wondering about that.

Wherever possible Bob stressed journal entries. That’s what I loved about it–it’s easier to setup an algebraic formula w accounts and solve for X rather than to mainly rely on memory gimmicks (ahem Becker).

Well, it worked for me! Passed FAR with 87 using just the BISK Videos, NINJA Audio and NINJA MCQ. Apparently the videos aren’t too dated. Good luck to anyone else using this strategy.

@Kimble I like the NINJA PLUS videos as well. Sometimes if I want a more in depth understanding of topic I will ditch the audio (since I have heard each chapter multiple times) and watch the videos. Any in particular that really helped you nail down something for the exam?

So, I actually consumed the BISK Videos more like Audios, listening to them in my earbuds whenever I got the chance. I, too, listened to the NINJA Audios repeatedly. If I had to pick one section, I’d say Governmental and NFP (sorry). They say it’s 20% of your exam, mine felt like 35%. Bob’s discussion is just vastly more robust than Jeff’s – in fairness, it’s 5 hours vs 35 minutes. That’s from a post-examination prospective, though. Going in, I felt like I learned a lot from the BISK (compared to the Audio) for Consolidations, Bonds (if you haven’t taken BEC), Income Statement (although some of that is dated) and Capital Leases. The only set that I felt wasnt worthwhile was the Corporate Income Tax – very repetitive.

@Kimble thanks for the feedback on the videos. How did you end up on the exam?

I’ve just started studying for REG and I was wondering about how relevant the Ninja Plus videos are for it. Like what are the topics in REG that have had changes since the BISK videos came out?

@ascott89 i am on REG now too. I don’t think I am going to rely as heavily on the videos, due to the fact that Taxes/Laws can change frequently. That said, I am finding that Jeff’s Audios are going in one ear and out the other, I may have to actually read something for this section, gross. I will probably just start MCQs way earlier and do 3x the questions I did for FAR or BEC.

@kimble: I didn’t do much reading at all for REG; hammering MCQs was sufficient (I’m no EWS winner, but a pass is a pass), especially for learning nuances like p’ship and corp tax basis.

@Kimble If you could rank the videos in order of what you got out of them, how does this order sound in order of best to worst:

    1. Government Accounting
    2. N-F-P
    3. IFRS
    4. ??????
    5. ??????

Going to listen to them the next two weeks on my commute to work and back.

Really puttin’ me on the spot, eh? (practicing my Canadian…) So, IN ORDER OF USEFULNESS IN THE EXAM, I’m not going to rank all 25, 26, whatever…
    1. Governmental
    2. NFP
    3. IFRS
    4. Accounting Changes
    5. Leases
    26. (or whatever): Corporate Income Tax

IN ORDER OF KNOWLEDGE GAINED WHERE NINJA AUDIOS LEAVE SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED
    1. Consolidations
    2. Governmental
    3. Leases
    4. Bonds
    5. Income Statement
    6. Statement of Cash Flows
    26. (or whatever): Corporate Income Tax

Just view them all, then do it again. And again. 81 hours. You won’t be disappointed.

@Kimble Thanks for the help. Will be busy with all these video over the next 11 days and will be able to make up for a lot of them by just listening on my commute to and from work.
