How do you know what non public work experience goes towards getting licensed? Some states you have to have “internal auditor” work and others simply say non public. For example, would a staff accountant working under a CPA controller suffice?

Each states handles their own licensing requirements.
NYS old requirements were 2000 hours in audit work, but the 2009 rule change made the experience hours much more lax, and now pretty much anything using numbers counts, ie: tax work, financial advice, etc.
