It used to be about 3 months. Anyone know if that’s changed? Thanks!

November 22, 2017 at 4:33 pm #1666535VitoParticipantAs of today, the NYS board is processing applications the board received in mid-August so it looks like the wait is still around 20 weeks from the time of application to license number.
November 22, 2017 at 4:41 pm #1666544cleethreeParticipant@Vito that's interesting because Pork Flavored Bacon stated that someone who sent in his application in August already received their license number on November 8th. Besides that, wouldn't the wait time be around 16 weeks not 20 weeks according to your timeline.

November 22, 2017 at 4:51 pm #1666552VitoParticipantFor me personally, it was 4 weeks from the time I submitted my application until it went to the board. From what I’ve gathered in this thread, once an application is approved by the board it is sent to another unit for the actual license to be issued which takes an additional 2 weeks. 4 weeks + 14 with board + 2 for license is 20 long weeks.
I would imagine applications mailed in early August could have reached the board sooner than mine as mine was mailed just after the 2017 Q3 score release. I’m sure there was an influx of applications in mid/late-September. This may be why Pork Flavored Bacon’s colleague already has their license number.
November 22, 2017 at 5:13 pm #1666573cleethreeParticipantHmmmmm, Does it really take that many weeks with the board? I know my application has already went through a preliminary review and didn't think the board review would be that absurdly long. I'm really hoping to be licensed before the end of 2017, so 14 week review would not help me in this case.

November 25, 2017 at 12:07 am #1668305DanielParticipantI've been constantly checking this thread to estimate the processing speed of CPA applications. I got my license number today and want to give a debrief of my timelines for your reference.
I mailed my application (Form 1) to NYSED in the week of June 25th, and the check was cashed on 6/30.
My supervisor sent in the experience form (4B) around 07/21, and it took about 2 weeks for the 4B to be fully processed.
My application package was forwarded to the board on 08/14 and I was told that the whole process would take about 14-16 weeks.
I got my license number on 11/24.November 26, 2017 at 3:11 pm #1669063tsetse1314ParticipantI called NYS the day before Thanksgiving, they told me that my application was sent to the board 11/13/17 and it would take about 14 weeks depending on the number of applications they have. They are reviewing applications from mid-August. At this rate, I won't be licensed until 2018.

November 27, 2017 at 1:55 pm #1669747tsetse1314Participant@Cleethree – I sent in my application on 10/2/17, they processed my check on 10/5/17. However, I didn't submit my transcripts until the following week and my supervisor didn't sign the form until like 3 weeks after I submitted my application. So I'm actually surprised that my application is with the board on 11/13/17 since I thought it would take longer.
November 27, 2017 at 2:19 pm #1669765cleethreeParticipantHmmmm, I sent in my application on 9/19 and they processed my check 9/25. I did not have to resubmit my transcripts and my supervisor sent in the 4B the same day I sent out my application. When I called a couple weeks ago, I was told my application has been under preliminary review and that it would be sent to the board Late November/Early December.
So I am kinda surprised your application was sent to the board before mines. Hopefully your application does get processed quickly and you do get licensed in 2017.

November 27, 2017 at 3:00 pm #1669817tsetse1314Participant@Cleethree – It is surprising that you're application hasn't been sent to the board yet. I guess it could be different people reviewing the materials beforehand (some can be slow or fast or some might went on vacation and such; that's all I could think of that could be possibly delay in sending it to the board) The rep also said that if the board has any questions, they will email me. Hopefully they don't. LOL.
I don't mind getting my license in 2018 as I do not receive any incentive for passing my CPA. I do think it will take longer, since most people were waiting for 3Q17 release, and once the score were release, people will submit their application. I assume, late-Sept and early Oct, there will be a lot more applications compared to the summer.
I guess call again in Mid-Dec to see where your application is at.
November 27, 2017 at 5:31 pm #1669966cleethreeParticipantThat is true, September applications will probably be higher than August/Summer applications.
I wouldn't mind waiting, but I am planning to become partners with my boss once I am licensed. I am very eager to get it before the end of 2017, so I can have everything in order before the start of tax season.

November 27, 2017 at 5:42 pm #1669973ReckedParticipantSounds like we are in very similar positions cleethree, except I have just started the journey.
Care to share any more details of how long you have worked there and what your transition to partner will look like?
I have been with the same sole prop for 15+ years but he is rather dodgy on the details. Not really sure what to expect.November 28, 2017 at 1:46 pm #1670689cleethreeParticipant@ReckedRacing I was working at my firm for 8+ years now. My boss has always encouraged me to further my education and get my CPA license. At first I was procrastinating, but eventually I made the push as I did not want to be stuck at the same position for a long period of my life.
My boss' firm is a sole prop and he is on his stage to retirement, so we plan to form a partnership with a 60/40 split of the profits for at least 2 years with me eventually purchasing his share of the firm for 20% of the 5 subsequent years billings after the purchase. Then ultimately I will own the firm outright, which I am unsure if I will keep as a sole prop or form another partnership.
It hard to say what you boss will propose, but I am sure the closer you are to getting your license the more details he will provide. And remember you have the right to refuse and propose another deals, don't just settle to whatever he offers.

November 30, 2017 at 12:02 pm #1672655NYS-takes-too-LONGParticipantI just called the board and they stated they are finishing up applications from 8/29/2017 (I hope he is right!!). I believe they were on 11/14/17 about a week ago. My application was accepted on 10/3/17, so there is a slight chance for licensure in 2017.. and I mean slight…
