It used to be about 3 months. Anyone know if that’s changed? Thanks!

My file was marked complete and forwarded to the board on Dec 5th. The board approved me to be licensed yesterday. It takes a short while to get the license number from what I have read. Hope this helps!

March 19, 2018 at 10:31 am #1740486AnonymousInactiveHi Guys,
I really need your opinion and help on this one. So, my supervisor is licensed in NJ and not NY. We are processing the NY license for my supervisor now and after that is processed, I have to work one more year under my current supervisor in order to get my NY license. Now, I think I can get licensed through NJ without having to wait the year because I have worked under my supervisor for 3 years. The caveat is that I have to take an ethics course for NJ. What you guys think? Should I wait the year and change or should I go for the Jersey license? I don't want to wait that long to have those 3 letters behind my name.
I appreciate your responses – thank you!
March 19, 2018 at 10:34 am #1740489ReckedParticipantMore states = more fees.
Once a CPA always a CPA (in NY anyway).
You don't have anyone else in your organization that can sign off for you?Do you do much work in NJ that it would be worth while to have the NJ CPA designation?
Who am I kidding. I would do NJ now, and then do NY in a year. But I'm very impatient so…

Thank you for your response! I do not do that much work in Jersey my main location is NY. But, I do feel impatient. So, I am trying to figure out if this would be the best option since I want to speed this up…

March 26, 2018 at 12:49 pm #1749630FinallyParticipantFor those of you new to this board who haven't read the preceding 12 pages (or don't want to), here is a summary of my experience:
– took and passed the last of my exams in Q3 2017
– mailed my application/check in October 2017 (check cashed about 5 days later!)
– delay getting my experience forms submitted due to partner's vacation and a change in the internal process at my old firm
– emailed “opunit3@nysed.gov” in mid-December 2017 to check on the status of my application, and was told that my application was “forwarded to the CPA Board” on 12/04/17 and the processing time was “about 16 weeks”.
– emailed opunit3 again on 03/20/18 and was told that my “license will be issued in 1-2 weeks.”But here are the important dates:
– Monday, 12/04/17. No other dates matter. You could have started your application process a year ago. But your clock doesn't start ticking until your COMPLETED application is sent to the CPA Board.
– Monday, 03/26/18. Date that my name first appeared on the New York State Office of the Professions website. This is also the “Date of Licensure” listed for me on the website. It is also the first date that I am able to access my “license no.”So it took me exactly 16 weeks from CPA Board to website. This is a little longer than others that preceded me. I had been tracking the progress of others, and they had been taking 14-15 weeks from CPA Board to website. Not sure why it is taking longer now.
March 27, 2018 at 7:14 am #1750143AnonymousInactiveThanks for posting this @Finally. I sent in my application, just waiting on experience forms to get in. It's looking like it will be sometime in August that I'll finally get my license!
March 27, 2018 at 1:20 pm #1750515fxbinbinParticipantMarch 27, 2018 at 8:00 pm #1750836FinallyParticipant@cpachamp No problem. I initially had an expectation that the turnaround time was 1-2 months (based on the experience of others I know who got their CPAs many years/decades ago). So reading the posts on this forum really helped ease any anxiety that I would have otherwise had. Although I was really hoping for a 2017 license, since I passed my last exam in Q3 2017.
@fxbinbin I also waited for my congratulation letter before I mailed my application. But in hindsight, I would say that this is not necessary. If you know that you passed all four parts (within the allotted time frame), I would recommend that you get started on cpa4b. This part tends to take the longest amount of time, as you are relying on the goodwill of someone else to complete in a timely manner. Also, if you are going the 150 credit route, confirm that NASBA sent your education evaluation to the state recently. Not sure why or even if it true, but I had called NASBA about a different issue, and they recommended that I have my education evaluation re-sent to the state since it had been more than a year since I initially signed up for the CPA exams.
