I called today and was told I'd get my license in 7 – 10 business days. Does this mean I've already been “approved” or does it mean they expect the Board to approve me in 7 – 10 business days? The lady kinda rushed me off the phone.
When would I appear on the website?
For reference, I applied the first week of September. I forget exactly when.November 19, 2018 at 1:39 pm #2064653
Called today. Application was approved. Said my license will arrive in few weeks. For reference my docs were received on Sept 27th.November 19, 2018 at 2:06 pm #2064695
I see the process takes 2-3 months. is that right?November 19, 2018 at 8:30 pm #2065094
@green, 2 months to review application, 3 month to get license. I will update when i receive my license so you can get a rough idea of the full timelineNovember 28, 2018 at 3:42 pm #2079908
Got my number today. Docs received on Sept 27th. Number received on Nov 28th.November 29, 2018 at 9:22 am #2082242
Called NYS (518-474-3817 ext. 270) and confirmed all docs were received by 11/28. Will reply back when number received.
I will keep an eye on the mail, but I am wondering if this can be tracked electronically. NYS allows for a personal email address on Form 1. Do you get an email once you are approved by the board? Or do we have to wait for license in snail mail and call occasionally to check status?
Also, I am considering the CFA exam next. Any CPAs herein that have both? Is it worth it? CFA can take over 3 years. I am also considering top-tier MBA to move into front office finance. Anyone have experience or know someone?November 29, 2018 at 9:55 am #2082755
NYS is not very good at making contact with any issues as previous users have stated in this thread.
The only way to track online is to use the NYS CPA professional license verification to continually check to see if your name is listed.
I think your name is usually listed within 24 hours ish of your license being granted.
At this point in time I'd recommend waiting 4 weeks to call just to make sure nothing is missing from your file.
Then call in another 4 weeks to make sure there is still nothing missing.
It seems they are getting slightly caught up and now issueing in about 2 months, so that will be your time frame target.
Patience is the key, but don't count on them contacting you if something like transcripts are missing, you'll need to stay on top of it.November 29, 2018 at 10:42 am #2083385
Thanks Recked. I have a question/comment for all. My education is split 146 credits in NYS accedited accounting & finance program, 6 credits from UoP online (3 credit BUSCOM and 3 credit Acct theory, both masters level). Total of 150. I am wondering if anyone was rejected for the UoP/online class portion. I called NASBA and they said they can't do an education verification because I already passed the exams. NASBA said to call NYS for further assistance. Called NYS and they told me to call NASBA back. I am in a love triangle with NASBA and NYS Board right now over education. So, I applied anyway without any definitive answers. Hope it gets by the board – any comments?November 29, 2018 at 11:12 am #2083475
Anyone get the date they are up to? Last time I checked it was October 2nd. I don't feel like calling again. HAHAHANovember 29, 2018 at 11:18 am #2083523
Can't offer much assistance on this. I think if you research hard enough you will find a course listing for NY somewhere, as to what is accepted or not accepted.
At this point in time all you can really do is hope for the best.
Its always tough when you get caught between NYS and NASBA, vicious cycle that is going to cost you 2 months.
Given this new information I would advise you call every 2 weeks instead of 4 weeks.
They may OR MAY NOT, call or email you to let you know your education is NOT sufficient, but given their track record of making first contact with people that have issues with their file, stay proactive on this.
Steven, the guy up on this page sent his stuff Sept 27th and got his number yesterday, 11/28.
That's a pretty good indicator. Doesn't exactly jive with your call results, but still ballpark.
I know its hard to remain patient, good luck and speedy results!!! What date did you submit your stuff?November 29, 2018 at 11:22 am #2083541
Maybe he means the board got his stuff on the 27th, which makes more sense. he said received which doesn't really tell me if they received the app or the board received the info.
I checked the website and my name was not on there.
I mailed my stuff Sept 24th.
Was sent to the board 10/16.December 6, 2018 at 9:36 am #2101758
Approved by the Board yesterday!!!
Paperwork Submitted: 9/24/18
Board Received: 10/16/18
License Approved: 12/5/18
Waiting on it to post to NYS and to receive that wonderful document.December 6, 2018 at 9:38 am #2101761
Congrats and thanks for sharing your time line, its very helpful to other candidates waiting in the que.December 11, 2018 at 1:47 pm #2109906
Hi Guys hope you can help a fellow applicant. I just passed the last part and obviously want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible to get licensed. Should I wait for the congratulatory letter or should I send in the application right away and ask my manager to submit his piece as well? And for the application, when they ask for date and grade, is that the date I took the test or the day I received scores?
Thanks!December 11, 2018 at 1:50 pm #2109918
Send it all in right away. The forms are all available on the website.
The date and grade should be the date you sat for the exam.
I would include that but I think its unnecessary as they will just get it from NASBA anyway. But it can't hurt to include it.
Good luck.December 11, 2018 at 3:52 pm #2110104
Just thought I’d give everyone my timeline as I recently got licensed:
09/19/2018 – passed final part
09/20/2018 – application mailed to NYS
10/11/2018 – application sent to board
11/28/2018 – application approved by board
12/07/2018 – name on nys websiteDecember 11, 2018 at 10:41 pm #2110836
Hi all, I just completed all 4 parts of the exam in NYS. How long does it take to receive the congratulatory letter in the mail or by email and who does it come from? NYS or NASBA? Thanks!December 12, 2018 at 9:29 am #2111232
I feel like it took about a month to get my letter from NASBA.
You don't need to wait for the letter, all the forms for the CPA application/experience etc are available on the NYS CPA website.December 12, 2018 at 8:04 pm #2112180
Application mailed and received by NYS: 9/26/2018
Application sent to Board: 10/16/2018
License No. on Board Website: 12/12/2018
Not sure when it was actually approved by the board, but before it was posted on the website. Didn't ask. Overall about 10 weeks processing time. Not as bad as I was anticipating. Christmas came early.December 13, 2018 at 8:48 am #2112609
Has anyone had issues with the education requirements? I had mine approved over email by a NASBA rep. At the time, my school had filed for bankruptcy and was going out of business so I had them send the transcript before they ceased operations. Now I'm being told I have to submit the education form to my school 🙁 should I still submit everything else as sort this out later on?December 13, 2018 at 11:58 am #2112900
Yes, submit it asap to get your place in line.
Hopefully NASBA will send your transcripts along with your scores.
Or maybe NY already has it on file. Be sure to keep tabs on this, never assume its going along smoothly just because you have not heard from NYS.December 18, 2018 at 11:48 am #2118528
11/28 – All docs and forms received by Office of Professions
12/12 – Application sent to Board
??/?? – Will update once decision received… woman said anywhere from 10-12 weeks from here! But could be sooner.
What have people done to celebrate this wonderful milestone? Aside from changing your email signature and LinkedIn to show the CPA letters. I want to get a tat that says ‘CP-GAY' on my bum.December 18, 2018 at 12:59 pm #2118606
Where do you guys check that the application was sent to the Board? I mailed everything in 12/13, education reqs sent to NYSED 12/14, probably too soon to know anything else but if you have a link can you share it?
I have not done the glorious 3 letter signature addition yet because I read somewhere that you actually need to have a license to be able to do thatDecember 18, 2018 at 1:03 pm #2118609
No website to check application status besides the NYS CPA verification to see if your license number has been issued yet.
Your only option is to call the CPA Board directly to get updates on your file, unless they contact you.
You can also e-mail them, but it takes about 2-3 days to get a reply.
Phone and e-mail are available on the NYS Education page, same place you get application forms etc.December 19, 2018 at 2:41 pm #2121411
Did anyone call the board recently?January 3, 2019 at 9:17 am #2145211
Has anyone called recently to find out what date the board is on?January 3, 2019 at 11:17 am #2145595
Called today. The board doesn't inform the admin staff what date they are on. You need to judge by this forum or get lucky with calling office of professions for information. Did anyone get licensed recently that has a timeline of when they submitted to the board?January 3, 2019 at 12:08 pm #2145673
I wish there was more transparency and a way to track your status. Like I know my paperwork was finally sent the board on 11/16/18 but I have no clue when and if I was approved. It's so annoying outisde of them saying 8-12 weeks. That means nothing.January 3, 2019 at 12:51 pm #2145769
It is what it is I'm afraid, you just have to be patient and wait it out. We've all been there.
I would think you are getting pretty close based on the last reported timeline.
I would be checking the NYS CPA verification website everyday for your name to appear.January 11, 2019 at 10:40 am #2159479
Called today. Board received all forms on 12/12/18, so its been a month. The woman said my experience is currently under review and that I have 10 weeks left. What does that mean, my experience is under review!? I had 4 years at Big4. I hope this is just a part of the process and nothing out of the ordinary. Any comments would be well appreciated. The only thing I am worried about is 6 online credits from University of Phoenix, which was Business Communications and Accounting Research.
