On the verge of giving up

I’ve passed REG and BEC so far. I’ve been studying for the CPA ever since last March. Just received my score for FAR(3rd retake) and I failed yet again. I have audit scheduled for June.

My past retake scores for FAR have been 63,62,and now 64. I’ve used Becker, Roger, and NINJA to review. I just have no idea what else to do. My averages on all 3 programs have been around 80-85% and yet I keep failing each exam. I’ve been studying for FAR for 9 months now and I don’t know if I should continue. I put in a lot of time and effort to study for this exam and have even used up my days off from my work. I’ve literally done nothing but work and study over the course of this past year. I just don’t know if I should keep going.

Study methods wise I’ve read the books, watched the lectures, handwritten notes, practice all the m/c and SIMS.

Are there areas in the content that you know you are weaker on? I would focus on those and make sure you understand the concepts, do lots of MCQs on them. I got a 72 in Q4 and just passed with an 81. I read through NFP/Govt and bonds and more MCQs on those subjects because I had a stronger understanding of the other topics. I also hand wrote notes and rewrote them. Good luck!!

    BEC - 84

    AUD - 82

    REG - 75

    FAR - 72, 81

Focus on your weaknesses. I've found that when I do really well on my own it just so happens I got a lot of questions in areas that I'm strong in yet in exams where I don't do well, I get lots of questions on areas that I'm weak in. Find out which topics you're weak in and focus on getting better at those.

@Nshah1824 Take a deep breathe, go over your weak points and try again. No one feels good about failing, and neither should you. But for your own sake, don't give up. You've already passed two, come on and pass those other two. You can do it! Besides, it just may be test anxiety.

I am in a similar situation to you! I have passed REG and BEC, except I am struggling with audit after finding out i failed my 3rd retake. I am moving on to FAR and will back move on to audit after giving FAR a try . I am using Becker and have found it to be good. I haven't supplemented with anything, but i think the key is doing MC and focusing on weak areas.

    AUD - NINJA in Training
    BEC - 75
    FAR - NINJA in Training
    REG - 77

It took me 3 tries over the course of several years to pass FAR. I watched Bob's (Ninja) videos to tie everything together in conjunction with Wiley. Start all over, don't skip any areas…including the ones you did well on. Just focus a bit more on the weak areas. I'm sure if you spend a few weeks going through and reviewing you will be fine. You're too deep in it to give up now!!

if you are getting 80% on the review tests but only get 60% on the actual exams, it sounds like you are memorizing the MCQ's. You should focus on reading the books for a while. If you read the books you are never wasting your time – you are actually learning stuff, but if you just do problems, are you really learning anything but those problems?

Like what the other posters said focus on your weak areas and relax, CPA exams want you to pass (50% pass rate), just make sure you learn what it wants you to learn and you will pass.
