I have said over and over again that save for very entry level positions, recruiters are virtually useless. I have worked with dozens on and off over the last 6 or so years and found them to be condescending and arrogant with virtually no accounting knowledge on which to base their attempts to place candidates. Ive had recruiters tell me I’d be LUCKY to get an offer of 65k (when my current salary was higher than that) with a Masters Degree, CPA license and 20+ years experience.
To their defense somewhat I went in each time with a wish list because I want this to be my LAST job. I’m 45 years old and don’t ever want to do a job hunt again LOL.
Finally a recruiter was patient with me, and absolutely only sent me positions that met my wish list. I’ve been waiting 3 years for him to find me THE job, but alas he has done it. After 2 months and 3 interviews (took so long because I had to wait for upper management to come from the UK to interview me) we have a signed offer!
So don”t count recruiters out completely but realize you may have to kiss a lot of toads.
