my employer’s bank has asked for a certificate of good standing from the state (got it) AND the IRS. For the life of me I can’t find how to request such a thing from the IRS.

    Is it called something else?

Its an S corp if it makes a difference………….

I found this online, and it talked about how there is not really such a thing as a letter of good standing from the IRS:

You may request your tax account transcript from the IRS.

Request transcripts by calling 1-800-829-1040, or order by mail using IRS Form 4506T (Request for Transcript of Tax Return). For an account transcript – check the box 6b.

There is no charge for transcripts. Allow two weeks for delivery.

Thanks tripp, I had called the banker yesterday and asked if he meant transcripts and he insists its a certificate.

I think he's an idiot…you may have confirmed my suspicions!

Well, I'm an idiot too – so perhaps I know exactly what he wants! 🙂

Ask the banker to show you a sample of this certificate. I bet it is something written by someone's accountant and he thinks it comes from the IRS.
