what do you tell your current employer when you need to excuse yourself for a job interview. I almost always schedule them after 5pm but occasionally that is not possible. I don’t generally TAKE a lunch break so its obvious when I do. I can only have so many doctors and dentist appointments to go to LOL, and the kids are out of school so I can’t claim its a parent teacher meeting.

This time I just said I have “an appointment” and left it at that, but I thought it would be fun to trade stories about how you excuse yourself while being sneaky? LOL.

I used the family emergency once… sad thing was it was both an interview and truly a family matter. Night before my interview found out some bad news in my family. I didn't feel too bad. Otherwise all appointments. What was worse I always had to go home to change first, so they were extra long. If I was seen wearing a suit they would have known I was interviewing.

Well I wouldn't or couldn't take an entire day off for a job interview. I use my vacation time/personal time when my kids need me for something or if I'm really going to be on a vacation.

Littlenumberrobot I usually wear a pair of navy slacks and a button down blouse to work. I keep a blazer/sweater in my car that I toss on over whatever I'm wearing that day anyway. I don't do skirts……LOL.

Usually schedule the interview early at the beginning of the work day if possible and then just let my management know that I have an “appointment” and leave it at that. The bosses at my work won't usually pry beyond “appointment” if left vague like that. Since I'm normally wearing slacks and a button down anyway just add the tie and jacket for the interview and lose them in the car before I get back to work :).

It's funny because now anytime I have to do an errand before work at least one of my coworkers will text or ask me when I get to work “How'd that interview go” haha.
