Who out there hates Valentine’s Day?

Me. It's a Hallmark holiday. It's also another “amateur night” for folks to go out, so my wife and I (and our 5 year old) will just lay low and make dinner at home and watch a movie. Boring to some, but perfect to us.

I think it's a pretty useless day. Reminds single people that they are single. Obligates married/dating people to do things just because of the “meaning” of the day and not necessarily because they just want to do something special. Also obligates parents to send in valentines for each of their kids' classes AND give their own kids a little something. What a waste of a day that is basically for commercial purposes.

My wife and I both dislike VDay. I get her a card and she's happy

Us to0 Tripp. We stay at home. We do nice things for each other all year long. If our kids weren't in school, Valentine's Day, would have absolutely no meaning in our house. Just another Saturday. My 5 year old gets excited about every little “holiday” so we do a little something for each one. St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, etc. just because she gets so excited, but we either make our own stuff or go with books, etc. They love it!

No idea what I'm doing this year. BF hasn't said anything. I'll assume nothing. I don't think I'll even bother with a card. Will feel awfully stupid if I get him one and I get nothing in return. Plus, then he would be obligated to go out and get me one. At that point, when someone is forced to do something, it loses meaning.

    Stupid day.

I have been pretty lucky with V-Day. My mother-in-law is a florist, and for many years my wife would work in the flower shop that week. By the end of the week, she was so sick of valentine's day that she wouldn't want to do anything, and especially didn't want me to get her flowers.

I love it. I don't think it is forced. It is nice to have holidays and birthdays and anniversaries as a time to show your love and reflect on the meaning of your relationship.

There's many “valentines days” in our household not just the one. We constantly surprise each other with flowers, gifts, or special trips to different places with just she and I. I've done more in the last year due to the constant traveling I'm doing for work and exam studying. So, we use the day to slow down and focus on each other, reminisce, and remind ourselves of the things we hope to accomplish in our future. She only asks for nice flowers for her office and alone time for us.

I'm really more indifferent towards Valentine's Day. When I was single, I can't say I ever felt bad on V-day because I didn't have a date. And now that I am in a relationship, I definitely don't feel obligated to do anything just because it's V-day. I booked a reservation for us at our favorite restaurant, but that's only because I want to be sure we have a place to eat at a decent time tomorrow 🙂 Last year, we did not plan ahead and had to wait FOR-EV-ER to get seated somewhere.

Was that a Sandlot reference “FOR-EV-ER”? If so, you just became the coolest person in this thread

I usually like it ok but not this year. 6′ of snow on the ground + another 2′ as a Valentines gift is NOT my idea of good time.
