For anyone who went through this process especially through Alaska, I’ve got a question:
did you pay your initial application fee, and exam fees (in my case I sit for FAR and AUD in the next 6 months) all at once? That’s almost 600$. What if for some bizarre reason, my application is rejected. I stand to lose all the money.

There seems to be no option to just go through with the initial application first.

I think the cost is only the application to SIT for the exams. Once your board approves, it will let you select whichever exams your want to take and pay the fees for those exams. So that being said, you at most lose the application fees, not the 2 exam fees as you mentioned.

So you're saying, if found ineligible, they will return the exam fees?

I know it's tempting to ask questions on here, hoping some people who already went through this process will shine a light in whatever you are going through… however, for something like this, please don't hesitate to pick up the phone and give your board a call unless you are one of those people who trust everything they see on the web… 😛

California board does not require pmt on exams before approving candidates eligbility. I was required to pay for application seperate from the exam fees. So maybe your board has different policies.

    Alaska

All first-time applicants are required to pay both an application fee and an examination fee upon submission of the first-time application

    Application fee $175.00

    Examination Fees
    Auditing and Attestation (AUD) $208.40
Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) $208.40
Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) $208.40
    Regulation (REG) $208.40

So, with your first time application you pay the application fee and the fees for whatever sections you sign up for… IF you are found ineligible, you could withdraw your application and request a refund of the exam fees.
