Pay to Cancel Exam?

I have an exam scheduled for 5/8. This is the last day my NTS is valid. I will not be ready to take the exam by then.

I plan on reapplying for an NTS and taking the exam at the end of May.

What is the best/cheapest way to go about this? I know I have to pay for a new NTS but I do not want to also pay prometric for not taking the exam.

Do I need to pay $35 and cancel or can I just not show up?

    Don't worry; be happy.

If you're not ready for the exam and you pay to cancel, you're gonna eat the cost of the exam anyway so why pay more? I would just let it expire. For me, my test center is 2 1/2 hour drive one way so I would not add $30 for gas to fail or $35 to cancel and still can't use the nts. At this point there is no money to save, so I would purchase another nts and study for real. This CPA experience can become really expensive.

That is my question. I know for certain I am eating the exam cost, so do I need to pay to cancel the exam or can I just not show up?

I'd hail Mary it and see what happens. What will you lose that you won't already lose?

I will lose the opportunity to sit for the exam until Q4 because of the score release delay.

I think I see what your saying, correct me if i'm wrong. As you can only take the same section each quarter, your wondering if you don't show up will that count as you attempting the exam in Q2 and therefore not being allowed to take it until the following quarters. Or do you need to reschedule so you can take the exam in Q2.

I've tried looking up the answer but was not able to find it. I just wanted to clarify your questions for others who may be able to answer your question.

My exam is scheduled for 5/8. My NTS expires 5/8. I know if I take the exam, I cannot take it again until I get my score back (so probably not until Q4). I also know if I do not take it, I can reapply and take it at the end of Q2 or Q3.

My question is more specifically in regards to my currently registered exam. I am not taking it. I am prepared to pay for new examination fees. I do not want to also pay prometric $35 cancellation fee. Can I just be a “no show” and not pay the cancellation fee since I am okay with forfeiting my exam fees?

The problem with simply being a “no-show” is that your Prometric seat remains unavailable for anyone else. This likely has the greatest impact on others in the last week of a testing window.

For example, I checked for availability at a site much closer to my house every day for 6 weeks, but none opened up and I had to drive 6 hours to take FAR.

I'd bet there was at least one no-show that day at the Prometric that was only an hour away, but whatever.
Let your conscience be your guide.

Long story short, yes you can be a no show. You will not be penalized if you don't show up.

I did a no-show back in November and had no problems. I wasn't about to pay the additional fee on top of the fact that I was losing my exam money.

There is also something to consider, you have 2 weeks. You might get lucky or know enough to pass anyway.

I would do mcqs. I tried to do FAR in four weeks the first time, ended up with a 74 and could've easily passed it.

Especially for FAR, most people feel like they never know enough. Might as well take it.

I think the point was give already that if you take it you won't get the results back until August or later, but if you cancel or no show you can get another NTS. So if you're really not ready just cancel, wait at least 24 hours and purchase another NTS.

    I vote Hail Mary!!
    Just took my test today.

Know stmt of cash flows back and forth. Maybe you'll end up with sims that give you points for entering 0. Several of my sims could be done by anybody with basic accounting knowledge. They were just incredibly time consuming and that's where I messed up.

i no showed for an expiring NTS. Just gave me a fail score.

I'm going to be the person who says "I finished even though..." not the person who says "I didn't finish because..."
