    PHC is owned by 5 or fewer individuals and 60% or more of its income comes from NIRD (net rents, interests, royalties, and dividends).

    Are holding companies like Berkshire Hathaway and Alphabet considered PHCs? If so, how can they be PHCs? They have more than 5 shareholders for sure and also possess many subsidiaries.

    I think the difference is “Personal” holding company and/vs holding company.

    Personal is where the 5 or fewer individuals AND 60% earnings of NIRD – Net rent, Interest, Royalties, Dividends
