    Hello fellow Ninja’s,

I have an upcoming phone interview and I’m seeking advice on how you would prepare if you were in my shoes. What I’ve thought of so far include:

    1. Prepare real life experiences to support statements on resume and cover letter
    2. Research the company and develop thoughtful questions about the position

If you’ve had several phone interviews, what is one question you ALWAYS seem to be asked?

    Thanks!

If I were you, I will GOOGLE the company and about 100 common interview questions, type out the answers and have it ready on the computer for easy find and search. I will also practice my speech ahead of time so you know what you are saying…I will also come up with some questions or things that will buy you some time (while you search and look up the answers) so it doesn't sounds like a pause, like “would you be more specific on __________?”

The first questions will always be tell me a little about yourself… and that's usually when HR or the director of some sort reading your resume and you talk for the first 3 minutes.

For me phone screens aren't a full on interview and are usually very basic and conversational. They'll ask you about things you have listed on your resume, and ask about why you're interested in the position, when can you start etc. Definitely research the company, and give your preferences about the type of work you are interested in. You should be able to back up the things you have on your resume with examples. Have a preferred salary range ready in your head (research this). That's about it.

If know ahead of time that they will ask a question like “how many McDonalds are there in the US?”, they aren't looking for the exact number – they are interested in your thought process in how you arrived there.

I may or may not know this one from experience 🙂
