Physical Certificate disappointment?

I just got my CPA certificate in from New Mexico and I must say I am quite disappointed on how it looks. I was hoping for something similar in quality to a college degree that I could have nicely framed and hung in my office.

Any one else have this issue with their certificates also?

Notice the perforation around the edges! I’m supposed to pop this out…So disappointed…

I got that too, you can see the very bottom of it at the top of the picture. Again it is perforated for me to pop out.

You should have gotten Texas. It's pretty good IMO. They even throw new CPAs in Texas a ceremony like a graduation ceremony. If you don't go they just mail it to you.

I just got my CA one on Saturday and it looks crummy. Plus I had to pay the mailman $1 as the state did not put enough postage. It's flimsy paper compared to my degree.

lol and wow on the $1 paid postage.. All the money that we spend on exam fees and we end up with a flimsy piece of paper, a wallet card and/or having to pay postage due. I'm in Texas and they do make the certificate look nice and glad they make it a big deal BECAUSE IT IS! Sorry this happened to you guys.

You know what would be cool is if the MA wallet sized card is actually a sponge that you pour water on and then expands into a lifesized certificate.

The corner on my certificate was bent and it looked like it had been printed with an inkjet.

The AICPA membership certificate is much cooler/bigger.

I am thinking about going through the reciprocity process for a Texas license. If I do, would I get a certificate from them also?

Keep in mind…you paid for that college certificate with $_______ of tuition. There's a ceremony. It is the core mission for a college to graduate students. YOU and YOUR GRADUATION are the mission. It makes sense that the diploma would be substantive.

Contrast this with a small state agency that gets your $125, checks, or has NASBA check and mark some check boxes…and then moves on. The mission is TAKING YOUR MONEY and enforcing a standard/code around the license based on public trust. The public is actually the beneficiary, you're an afterthought.

Kentucky's looks pretty nice, in my opinion. This isn't me (I'm a girl obviously lol) but I found this through google.

Oh wow…. I knew the budget situation in our State was bad, but seriously?! 🙁 Now I know what to look forward to. “Spent almost a year and well over $3k to get this, and all I got was this thing that looks like it came in a kindergarten activity set.” My boss has a CPA that he got back in the day when dinosaurs ruled the earth, and it looks way better than this. It is on high quality paper with golden imprints of the Zia symbol. It actually looks like something to be proud of.

@OP I know they sell a CPA certificate for $25 on the NASBA store. Probably cheaper than applying for a reciprocal license somewhere you'll never practice.

I was disappointed when I first got my MN license because it showed up folded in half after our mail carrier crammed it into the box with brute force. It was nothing special, no seal or anything frame-able IMO. But 3 months later, I got another more official looking envelope with a professional diploma-style certificate with the gold seal and everything. Maybe yours will come eventually?!

I'll be curious to see what CO looks like since my reciprocal application is in process.
