    Hi everyone:

I am three days away from my FAR exam and just feel so under prepared. I knew a little late that I may have approached studying for it in an ineffective way but as much as I try to remedy that I just can’t get the concepts to stick. I find myself having to reread my notes every time I revisit a concept. I just can’t remember.

So please, for those of you magnificent people who have passed FAR, please let me know how you did it!

Notes: I use Becker and Jeff’s notes.

How long have you been studying? If you feel so unprepared, why dont you take FAR on Nov? Have you taken Becker's final exams? If you score at least a 70 on those exams, you should be fine.

I have been studying since the end of August. I did have a small set back in September as someone I love passed away.

As far as taking in November, I am already scheduled for Monday so it doesn't make sense not to whether I am “fully” prepared or not.I scheduled based on my experience with REG and really, I am deadline oriented. If I don't get something scheduled I won't hit the books as hard. It's just how I operate. I genuinely think the main problem I am having is that I didn't schedule it earlier. I took everyone's advice to wait until I am “ready” to schedule but I found that that doesn't work for me. Then, the rules are changing in my state and therefore I kind of have a deadline to meet hence I went as late as I thought I could so I would have enough time for AUD in November. Like everything else with the CPA it's all very complicated.

I am on the fence about taking the final exams. I took them for REG and they really didn't add to anything. If I wasn't already scheduled maybe but I'd rather spend the four hours studying. But, really, I just don't know what to do. Hence the post 🙂

My advice – hit the MCQs as hard as you can over the next few days. Between that and rewriting the Ninja notes/flashcards, that's pretty much how I studied for FAR. Ninja MCQs are best in my opinion, but with only a few days to go, you might be able to stick with whatever test bank you have and be okay. Just do as many problems as you can and concepts/formulas should start sticking. I found that if I worked problems over and over by sections (i.e. bonds all at once, gvt/nfp all at once) I started seeing patterns and understanding the material better than if I kept working random sets over the material as a whole. I did it in about 3 or 4 weeks and passed on my second attempt (week and a half for the first attempt, another two-three weeks for the second attempt). It's not efficient, but it's worth a shot. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your insight. I'll definitely take your advice into consideration. I figure if I don't pass this time then I will have had one long ass study session to help prepare me for January.

You won't feel fully prepared anyway– there is too much material for that. At some point, you just have to go for it. might as well be Monday!

Keep doing MCQs, and write out journal entries and T accounts for the problems, and hopefully that will help get the concepts to stick.

Rewrite Ninja Notes, and make diagrams for concepts if that kind of thing works for you.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
