Alright, just finished my Audit exam. I have zero idea how I should be feeling about this, and the joy of it is we all get to feel that way until December 19th! I use Becker, got 82 and 84 on the mock exams, so I was nervous, but felt like I had a good handle on things going into the exam.

Well, now to the exam. The Becker MC prepared me great for the exam, maybe 5 questions I had to guess between the two choices I had narrowed it down to. As for the exam sims, nothing between the mock exams, chapters sims, or AICPA released sims could’ve prepared me for 5 of the 8 sims I had. It’s all so subjective trying to determine if additional procedures need to be completed, etc. — stuff like that. The two research are always nice, it would be even nicer if they don’t toss one out. So basically, out of the 8 sims, two research plus one other I feel confident on, but that’s 3/8 and us accountants know that’s not good enough for a pass. I’m just praying I scraped up enough partial points from other sims to get me to a 75.

Anyone else have a similar experience or any input on these feelings? I just don’t know if there’s much more I could’ve done to get ready for the exam.

Had a similar experience to you in Q3…you could have passed. I also struggle with the subjective type sims…were the sims relatable at all to becker or just more subjective? how do you think would be the best way to prepare for the sims would be?

Matt – if I were a betting man I'd say you passed. Handling the MCQ like that is huge, I know the SIMS are 50% but bear in mind they do issue partial credits when due on the SIMS.

I came out of AUD not sure what to make of it, feeling pretty good about MCQs (tho not as good as you from the sounds of it) and thinking I could go either way on the SIMS, like you seem to feel. I ended up with an 85.

I think these are just more subjective in general. A couple Becker sims helped with 1 of the sims I faced, but outside of that 1 sim, plus the two research questions, I don't think Becker helped much with other 5 sims. I'm lost as to how someone who hasn't taken the exam could know what to prepare for. I've read that people supplement Becker with NINJA sims but this is my first attempt on all the exams, so I'm hoping I don't have to venture outside of Becker. Got REG and FAR done, took AUD obviously, and now it's time to move on to BEC for 12/6.

Thanks Tommy. Trust me, didn't expect to have that good of an experience with the MC, but it's also been a lot easier studying for AUD after coming off of FAR. Ain't much that compares to studying for FAR. I had time to review all the MC for each module so that helped as well. But yea, at least the scenarios in a sim are independent of each other, so basically they can be approached as 6 different questions inside 1 sim. I'm just a guy who likes to have a good feel for how it went, but obviously I'm not the only person who feels the sims are a toss up.

I felt awful coming out of REG in July. MCQ were ok, but the SIMS were just crazy hard, and I felt like junk for weeks. I think if I failed, I would have known why. But I managed to pass with 77. AUD experience was better but there were definitely WTF moments with the SIMS, considering I got one from the AICPA practice test and the only one I didn't look a solution up to:) LOL That one went with a final score of 87. I think you have a very good chance of passing, but either way, now all you can do is wait.

If you scored 80s on your mock and feel 90-95% confident on your mcqs I bet you did fine on the sims. I scored 78 and 72 on my mock exams and I also felt like the audit mcqs were cake on the exam but found many of the sims to be SUPER subjective – I just did my best, actually ran out of time on my last sim and had to plug in a couple numbers. I had no clue if I passed or failed (as always). I took it Q2 and scored an 89. You probably did great my friend.

Thanks Anyatver — The wait is worse than the exam itself for me personally!

Thanks Superdude — I agree that the simulations were extremely subjective, felt like I was taking educated guesses on some of them and trying to pick the “best” answer. I'm sure that's the whole point of it because I've been on two audits in my short professional career so far, and things aren't black and white that's for sure. But I suppose it's tough for a review course to prepare candidates for subjective questions because who knows what the exam is actually going to ask us to judge whether it's internal control, assertions, sufficiency, etc. Also, people have complained that there have been FAR sims on the exam in the past, but I don't think I came across any questions today that I would've expected to need my FAR knowledge to answer, which is good because I passed FAR and forgot FAR!

I had a sampling SIM, bonds, and internal audit. I was trending right around 70 on NINJA and got a 79. I know I bombed the sampling and I did the JE wrong on bonds (I used SL instead of effective interest). I wouldn't sweat it. I waited from April 18th until they released the score in August. That wait was brutal. Hope you get some good news.
