What I've learned so far; don't cut corners. Focus on the concepts, not the individual answers or scores. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Take notes, ESPECIALLY when you don't understand a concept. Then you have it in writing to come back and review/reinforce later. I also put together a master formula sheet to review after I finished the material and was in the midst of practice tests and exams. Good luck guys!

@jex after you took the actual REG test did you feel it went ok? did you feel like the test wasn't too hard still challenging of course but that you did okay that maybe at least you pulled off a 75? or was your 89 a surprise?

@keeppushing, I walked out of the exam not feeling great, but okay. I felt like the MCQ questions on the exam were fair, but I thought the SIMs were challenging. I was not really sure what to expect, was just hoping for a pass. Two of my SIMs asked specific details on topics that I did not learn from Becker, but I was able to make some educated guesses and used the authoritative literature. Without going into too much detail, one of the sims was on individual taxation (which was covered in becker) but asked how really specific situations would affect the tax return. These specific items were not really discussed. Somewhere on the REG study group page, I have a more detailed overall test day experience post.

@jex thank you very very much. I read over your other posts. We may have had similar experiences! I asked because I got around a 70 on one of my Becker mocks and on the actual exam, as you stated, I thought was fair also on MCQ. I didn't feel horrible or great about it either but thought that my efforts were at least fair on most, and for some, I based answers on educated guesses based on what I remembered studying instead of complete guesses, which i did on my first FAR attempt and as you can see it didn't work out. I won't find out the score until the next release day but I am praying to God I have passed. I hope that since we had similar experiences that the outcome for me is passing too! thanks!

    Yes, just Becker.

I took the mock exams one a day starting three days before the exam. After each I focused on the two or three weakest sections. I found the MCQs the most helpful.

I didn't care much for the laminated paper and markers on exam day. A little better than hammer/chisel, but not much.

I've found an anomaly in the Space-Time Continuum. NASBA and the AICPA are in the 19th century. They use slide rules to score the exam, and then they send the scores by Pony Express to the State Boards. That's why it takes so long for them to do a score release.

Key for me was to buy a big white poster board and write down on there the different ways to calc basis, distributions -liquidating and non liquidating, how to treat losses for each, etc. for Partnerships, Scorp, and C-corp. I had it all there so I could clearly compare differences and refer to it as I practiced questions.

I took all my mock exams within a week of the actual exams. I didn't plan my time very well. I would definitely recommend to do the first mock exam two weeks prior to the actual exam and the second mock exam one week prior. Don't really need to do the third; in my opinion it's just gonna make you nervous and frustrated. I don't really use the mock exams to study; I use them to see where I am and to predict the actual scores. Good luck y'all!
